Hello,
Im getting back into film and need to get it developed. Costco and places like that are out. They dont do pro film. Im thinking of doing it at home unless someone has found a place that is good.
Thank you,
April
@aprilmilani it depends on where you live and if there is a small lab nearby. Doing it on your own is a bit of an upfront investment but I just finished developing a roll this evening at home. Note that most chain store labs develop c-41 film and not strictly black and white.
@phillyphotos Thank you. I live in Wa. outside of Seattle. I do 90% B&W. Im finding after after paying for a few rolls to be devoloped. I might as well do it at home. Do you print yours at home too?
@aprilmilani We have a studio you can rent space, an art school, and an art center that offer classes. I take one for about $275 a semester of 13 weeks so all the equipment and chemistry is provided. We have a photo lab that can process black and white, but I just do it at home while watching something cheesy on tv. I can do a 120 roll in about 35 minutes and two 35 rolls in the same time.
I do my own b&w processing at home, then scan. I haven't printed any of those negatives yet. I DO have an enlarger, but haven't dared use it yet. I just don't feel like I'd get my needed darkroom time with two small kids running around. BTW--I get my chemistry from adorama.com if you are interested.
I would suggest doing your own developing and then scanning. A large initial investment but price it out over the long term and it's way way cheaper.
If you can't do that right now try http://www.bluemooncamera.com/ they are close to you and I have heard great feedback. I am planning on sending them all of my c-41 and e-6 when I get a chance
@aprilmilani April, we have great labs in town! Panda and Moon.
Having said that, I do my own film processing at Photographic Center NW. I can talk your ear off about that place if you want. Just comment on one of my photos if you want more information.
Having said *that*, I'm just about to start doing my own developing at home and then will just print at PCNW.
What town do you live in BTW? I'm in the Mill Creek area.
Invets in good scanner and think ahead. today it might be 35mm but down the track you might want to do 120 film. What I really want to do is develop C41? and or E6?
@peterdegraaff@cmc1200 I think my biggest issue with C41 is the hazmat. Unless they've changed the process, the chems are pretty toxic. I could definitely be wrong though.
@cmc1200@grizzlysghost Threre must be a way of dealing with environmental issues even if it is to get a local camera store to dispose of used chemicals. The one near here has a licence and she dispose of waste for a range of shops.
@cmc1200@peterdegraaff Ok, I just watched a youtube vid and it's almost exactly like developing B&W, only hot instead of cold. I'm in. Shopping right now for the press kit and more bottles! :)
@grizzlysghost@peterdegraaff@cmc1200 Yes, please, I can't wait for y'all to experiment with this! :) I'm focusing on all things Zone, therefore for my experimentation, I'm confined to my same film and developer for the foreseeable future. After that, I have something else up my sleeve. ;) Aaron, I must have done the exact same thing and watched that video after Peter's post. Let us know how it goes!!!

B&H Photo; two Tetenal C-41 Press Kits and three Kaiser Accordion 1L bottles should be here on Friday; I'd better get some film ready!
