Great Ocean Road Locations

January 8th, 2013
Hey everyone

I'm headed to the Great Ocean Road in Victoria, Australia at some point in the next few weeks.

I will only have a couple of days in the area, so I'm putting together a list of places to visit for photography.

I've got the obvious Port Campbell (Twelve Apostles) on my list, but I'm not sure what else is around.

Does anyone know of any good locations to visit?

Thanks!

@tammeray oh wow, judging by their website, the treetop walk looks fantastic! I was planning to stop in at the Otway National Park for some waterfall snaps.

From memory just in from gellibrand there was a walk to falls on the way were huge treefern walled raised walking platforms that made perfect photos. It was back with my film camera might see if i can find a photo :)

i did a 3 day tour from adelaide to melbourne last year and we visited grampians np and on the great ocean road we saw: twelve apostels (ofcourse :P), gibsons step, log ard gorge, london bridge, bay of martyrs, bay of islands. so those are the main touristy things :P it was so beautiful out there, have fun!!

@tammeray Oh wow that sounds very nice! I've never experienced proper waterfalls with my camera before, just small ones here and there. I can't wait!

@nicoleterheide I'm pretty excited to see Gibsons step... from the pictures that appear in Google it looks breathtaking! I will definitely look into the other sites you mentioned as well. Thanks :)

@tammeray @nicoleterheide @jamesthorn I always liked the rain forests towards the Cape and camping out at Blanket Bay, visiting the Johanna's and grabbing a vegetarian burger in Apollo Bay. These were always great as I remember. Chilling out at all the little towns between Apollo Bay and Torquay. Port Fairy heading the other way is great and the ocean there is icy no matter how hot outside.

At Grey River not far off the main road between Appollo Bay and Geelong you can see koalas in the wild.

@peterdegraaff Great to know, thanks. I definitely plan on stopping in at all the little towns along the way. I hope to find some unique vantage points.

@tammeray It's great only being 4-5 hours away. It's not too far to leave on a Friday night after work and make a weekend of it.

@molehills That's awesome. I can't wait to see what I can do with my camera.

@glenmoor Oh wow! Maybe a stop for the way home!
