Yes I know, probably been discussed to the umteenth degree but looking for advice. Go with the Canon 50mm f/1.4 or the f/1.8, cost worth going with the f/1.4?
Thanks all for the feedback if you have the time!!! :)
Thank you @pocketmouse That is what I was leaning towards. Started with going with the f/1.8 but thought I should look into the other option. Thanks for the help!
I just purchased/tried out the f/1.4 today and it's totally different from the f/1.8! I've been following Teresa's project and that pushed me to upgrade. @pocketmouse :)
Scooter, I used it in today's picture in my album and I don't think this lens will ever leave my camera going forward!
Also, indeed. I compared the two.
f1.8 presents a greyish tones on the borders, don't now why. The borders of the pictures come out a little darker than what they should be.
f1.4 it does not happen.
Both are very very similar concerning sharpness. (both outstanding).
The 1.8 is a great lens (I have it), but you will always be wishing for the 1.4 (I do). All of my other SLRs have 1.4, and even some rangefinders, but not my DSLR. Something wrong with that picture. :)
Yeah go the extra $ and get the 1.4 I've been having a lot of issues lately with the damn 1.8. I normally never shoot at 1.8 because the focus is incredibly soft and never sharp. Even a 2.8 its a dud. I did a studio shoot yesterday with is and just say eff the shallow DOF and went 7.1 and got some super sharp images. The saying you get what you pay really goes a long way with glass. :) Plus its always better to have that red ring ;)

Why:
- built better, sturdier
- faster, wider aperture
- better colours/clarity
But:
- more expensive (2-3x the price of the f/1.8)
I own the f/1.4 and have also worked with the f/1.8... the f/1.4 is most definitely worth the money!
this was discussed just a few weeks back :)

The f1.4 is WAY BETTER. No more focusing problems. Awesome lens.

And no more focus hunting on f1.4.
