Hi all, I have spent the last few days working on a web site, its still a work in progress, I would like some views on if there is anything that works well or could be improved on ( I know the images need work ;) ) so would appreciate any constructive critique
Steve, the site is looking quite good - I'm building one at the moment, I know what it's like!
One thing I noticed was the aspect ratio of the main image thing in the middle is causing some images to get squished. If you click on the portrait category you get a lovely B&W shot of the young girl but her head is squashed :(
Looks okay, I work in web advertising, so if you're looking to use it for business, my advice would be the images take a while to load - not good for potential clients as they won't stick around, even general web browers don't like a wait - maybes drop the res on them to speed things up? Also the ones in your main banner are a little distorted :) Hope this helps!
When the page loads, there is a big black rectangle in the middle, and a slideshow of your stuff on the far right side but real small, I'm assuming that should be where big black rectangle is? The initial shot on the portrait and street tab as horribly squashed, making the people look a little deformed, other than that not too shabby. Images loaded straight away for me, so maybe it was Amy's connection speed.
@pizzaboy@amyamoeba Thanks for the comments, I know about the squashed images I did not alter them as I can't decide if I want to keep the rotating one from the main page on each page or to use individual images to represent the page content ??? Amy that's good advice I will lower the res when I get the set up right.
Thanks again for your input
@serpantmedia Regarding @amyamoeba 's comment about slow loading, you are loading the entire x-MB image just for some thumbnails and "resizing" them in the browser, that's why they're slow. Just load some thumbnails and then let the user click to get the large images if they want.
I agree about the thumbnails - they are slow to load and distorted by being forced into a different aspect ratio. Otherwise I quite like the site and the main photos loaded quickly. Some nice images as well.
@Cheesebiscuit@glenmoor thanks lowered the resolution i hope they load faster I have fiber broadband so even the full res loaded quick so I can't really tell how fast or slow they are.
@serpantmedia Much better. Instantaneous for me, now.
I do find it funny you say "Probably the thing I photograph the most, I love a nice building" and there is only one example! (And I mean both "funny haha" and "funny strange".)
Nice website. Simple and honest. A bit retro looking. I like that. I would however give the overall content a little more space (padding). Especially the content below the big image with the nice animation. For example the welcome page; the title 'welcome' and the text below do not align and content is just to wide (long sentences just aren't very friendly on screen). People tend not reading those. And change the heavy blue link color to a 'choosen' one.
Succes.
@serpantmedia Steve I like your site, the pictures do load nicely on each album when you hit the "next" arrow or click on the opened photo. I'm on ADSL2 (soon to be fiber yay!) I read your welcome message. I think you need to add a few more full stops to break up what you are saying into smaller sentences. What you say is great :)
good website steve well done, don't load up slow for me i got a lap top work well, but only thing i say is your name is in sliver which is good, but on the lap top bit dark. may be good to contact page in? and when you right click on your photos you can copy them!! water mark good also you can put a code in to stop right click. which well help too. over all very good, can't wait and see other photos when u put them up. can i warn you don't just put photos up ther and leave them keep up dating the site when people will come back.. but great
Works fine in Chrome and Explorer, but in Firefox I get the empty black space and images showing "off screen" to the right (I am using AdBlocker with Firefox so that might have something to do with it).
steve i just try it in firefox too your index page photo in the middle not working, every other page it does..who knows? but again maybe because maybe im using a lap top but its fast? your writting is ok just the middle photo is missing. try and reload still the same.
I didn't notice any contact form or e-mail address to get in touch with you via web. I think it is necessary so people who have more questions can ask them by e-mail.
