Camera or Lens

Thinking about purchasing a new DSLR. I shoot a lot of sporting events outside and inside and my camera has a lag time at startup. The lighting inside is typicaly poor but the action is fast. Outdoors the action is also fast paced somtimes under the lights and have to stop shooting at sundown because of the lighting. My question is, should I consider upgrading to a faster lens first, such as a 70-200 2.8 IS or should I consider upgrading the camera to somthing like a canon 50D. I currently shoot with the original digital Rebel (EOS 300D ) and has been very good to me. Does anyone have any thoughts on this.

i'd upgrade the lens. i don't know canon, so i don't know what the difference is between them - and i don't what lens you are using now, but those few stops make all the difference.

Do you have anyone you can borrow a lens off? Or just go into a specialist shop and try it out, see what results you get before you buy.

hie.. i am new to this site and have a canon IXUS 95IS , i am soon planning to upgrade my camera from a digital camera to a SLR , but i would like to know more about from all you guys , how important is it to click from a SLR ? Why is it that much necessary that a person should have a SLR ? and last , which one would be better, a Nikon or a Canon SLR.. if Nikon then which one D3000 or D60, though i can get all this from google.. but having a tip from professionals is something different... thank you.. i will be waiting for ur replies.

I am no where near a prosfessional but I ran into a lady where I work and got to talking about cameras. She told me If I was going to buy a nikon to buy the Nikon d7000. its a nice not quite profesional costing camera but it seemed to have quite a lot of good things to it. Personally I have a canon and I like the color quality I get from it. There is a good website that I like to use for reading the reviews on cameras and that is pricegrabber.com You can buy all sorts of cameras from them though I wouldnt advise it. I almost did but in talking to the sales associate there were a lot of hidden things that made the cost of your camera a whole lot more than what they advertise. I would rather buy from bandhphotoandvideo.com. they have good quality service and you can be sure your camera ships safe. but anyways the camera reviews you can read there might prove to be helpful to you. some of them are even professional reviews.

I'm thinking about going the the pro lens route. No matter how many new cameras come out, a pro grade lens never becomes obsolete. I started out with Canon and probably will stay with them since all my accesories are Canon, but I dont think you can go wrong with Nikon.

I have seen plenty of amazing photos on this sight from point and shoot cameras. Dslr cameras will give you alot more flexability, but that being said there have been lots of times I wish I had a nice point and shoot camera in my pocket.

Thanks everyone for your input.
