Color

February 2nd, 2010
I have noticed that when I upload a photo the color is much more muted than when looking at it in photo editing software (iPhoto, Picasa, Photoshop). I am using the same computer, thus it is not my monitor/display. Has anyone else noticed this? Any explanations? Ways to work around it?

Im sorry that I have no advice on how to fix it but have definitely noticed it. It gets me crazy sometimes. My photos come out darker or washed out when i upload, and there doesnt seem to be a rhyme or reason to it.

Sorry I couldnt help but wanted to let you know someone agreed with you!

Hi Rae, I assume you're using RAW photos on a Mac, it's a colorspace issue, the Mac has a different set it uses by default, whereas windows and the web use a standard called sRGB, what you will see is a reducion in contrast and saturation, you need to set Photoshop/iPhoto to work with the correct color space of your photo and export it for for the web, then it should look as expected.

Thanks Ross! I figured it was something along those lines. :)
