Some incredible and thought provoking photos. Please note that some are a bit full on so just be wary if you get disturbed by graphic images. They don't make for easy viewing. Just thought i'd better warn people beforehand.
Some very powerful shots, I'm surprised some of them got through but I've never known the previous years entries so I'm guessing they allow most entries. The one of the guy getting stoned to death and attacks on Gaza are very harrowing. Just goes to show the amount of hatred across the world.
I'm not sure if I agree with the winning photo or not, however at the same time I don't know what I would choose either.
IMO, one of the most impressive collections of photo journalistic images can be found at "The Big Picture" section of the Boston Globe website. http://www.boston.com/bigpicture/
I've always wondered how photojournalists handle some of the horrors that come with their profession. I used to go out with a newspaper photographer and he didn't seem emotionally affected by some of the stuff he saw, but I found out later that he was--he just had to put it out of his mind. I don't know if I could do that--the photos of the guy being stoned--how do you shoot something like that and then go about your business?
The series of shots of children--that was truly beautiful. I'm still looking, but some of those death scenes made me have to go away for a while.
Sorry for the thread hijack; I was just wondering if anyone here has personal experience of this kind of thing. I can't imagine it not leaving scars.
