As some of you may or may not know, I have this program in my school called PATH (peer as a teacher helper) where I am essentially a TA for the semester.
My placement currently resides within a grade ten academic Canadian history class.
Tomorrow I have my practicum.
I need to create a unit review for my class on world war two.
Initially I thought, well that's simple. I'll play jeopardy with them.
But as I continued to ponder on the thought, I realized that jeopardy's so... typical!
I want to do something outside of the box with them, but I don't know what to do.
I feel terrible in asking this question as I've hardly been active on here lately with all the work I have in school.
But if anyone on here is a teacher, student or someone who has an idea of what kind of lesson/game I can do with my class, I will honestly have an immense amount of gratitude towards you. I don't even think that's english.
Nonetheless, I'd really appreciate any ideas anyone has on how to conduct a World War Two Unit Review Game.
Please and thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you so much!
I used to teach a supplemental instruction course where I got my BS and MS. I used to have them play a modified version of hedbanz. One student places a card on their head (with a key term) and the others give clues until the student can guess what it is.
I also had them play charades once but that didn't work well.
Right now I'm going with having the class divided into two and put them against each other and just have them answer questions for points but I think incorporating that would be really awesome.
This might be kind of overdone, too, but worth a shot. I teach 10th grade English, and I sometimes like to play BINGO with my students for review. I give them a list of terms with which to fill up their BINGO board. Then I read out definitions/descriptions. Those who get BINGO by covering up the right terms get some kind of small prize. We sometimes play multiple rounds until all the terms/concepts have been covered.
Since it's WWII and the class will be divided how about a modified game of Battleship. They only get hits if they can answer a question correctly from the defending team.
Thank you so so so much for your input Amanda and Robert, I really appreciate it like no tomorrow!
Amanda- I was going to do Bingo, I actually had one of my students suggest it, but I didn't have time to make/pick up cards. I know what you mean though.
If I had more time, I would have done it!
Rob- Yes! I know what you mean.
I'm hoping to do something along those lines towards the end of the semester with maybe a course review.
Thank you!
