I have just started my second 365 and last year discovered how many teachers take up the 365 project.
I work for an electrical wholesaler as office manager.
@eos30me we listen to corporations' conference calls, parrot every single word that is said for the duration of the call and say it into a microphone, into the computer for a voice recognition software to translate it into written format... it's a crazy job, but it can be fun once you get the hang of it...except when a conference call goes past the 2-hour mark... :D
For the past 8 years I have worked in community welfare in a few different roles (youth homelessness, young parents, mental illness, disability). I have just finished up in the last couple of weeks as I'm about to become a mum... possibly the most challenging (but rewarding) job of them all!
@kjarn What an amazing job! Tough but so satisfying I would think.
I've been lucky enough to have had 3 jobs in my life that I've loved.......teaching, private gardener and now a probate genealogist, tracing relatives of those who die without leaving a will. (Heir Hunters)
@eos30me government grants to help fund my "education" :D
@kjarn Criminology and Forensic Studies currently, but I want to go more into forensic/criminal/medical psychology I've decided :) Working in psychiatric asylums such as broadmoor is my ideal :) And perfect since I live basically next door to it!
@Cherrill - yep my job is very tough which is why it really wouldn't be suited for everyone. I suppose it is satisfying but it is also very frustrating. You have certainly had a varied career.
I'm a chartered accountant and when I moved to France to follow the hubby, I don't practice the profession for now. I'm still into Finance though, working in a Credit Insurance company.
I'm a full time student finishing up pre-reqs for pharmacology.....went back to school after losing my job in retail almost 2 years ago. My 4th semester back starts Monday!
Looks like I'm one of the minority, despite the original post ;) For the last 12 months I've been a stay at home mum to my two kidlets thanks to maternity and long service leave ... but heading back to the classroom in a few weeks to continue high school teaching (and for the first time in 11 years, it'll be parttime!) ...
Wow, so much variation! I'm a phone counsellor for a suicide counselling line and a pregnancy support line and studying a master of clinical psychology....yep, I get a creative release through photography!
My husband and I own two companies a trucking co and a demolition company (we wreck buildings - no dynamite :D( ) I run the buisnesses -handle all the paperwork, payroll, contracts etc my husband oversees all the employees and keeps everything running smoothly at the shop.
I also manage 4 teenagers -lol - school,sports
I'm a pediatric nurse and for the last 6 years have taken care of children with multiple medical needs in thier homes. Recently I have also been working on the other end of the life spectrum, working per diem at a nursing home for the elderly.
Photographer and Forensic Examiner (crime scene investigator). So, my self-employment is taking pictures of happy people, and my day-job is taking pictures of dead ones. What can I say - I like contrast.
Corrections Officer in a maximum security juvenile detention facility. Been where I'm at for the past 2 years and I love it! Spent 2 years as the director of a boys' group home before that and loved it too.
Machine operator..(plastic injection) I make plastic car parts.. from the handle on your door to the bumper on your truck and any in between in and out.
I am a clinical psychologist and work with both children and adults. I have my own clinic, at home and I also work as supervisor in a public clinic. Until recently I was also a lecturer in university.
i work in the corporate offices for a clothing retailer in sales audit....i just make sure all our store's sales have processed correctly and that all the sales are accounted for....also we audit their transactions to make sure none of the employees are trying to steal from us, or the customers
not as interesting as some other jobs, but some days are more interesting than others...luckily holiday is over so it's not that busy....
Currently a Stay At Home Mum but with the girls off to pre school in September it's time to brush up my CV and start looking into future possibilities.
@koshi follow me and head to TAFE and teach there ... interesting students they are ... fewer staff meetings, less people looking over your shoulder, more independence ....
paid title is casual teacher but I prefer to and tell the little lambs 'I don't teach you anything ... I just pull the information out of your head in a form that's going to give you a mark to allow you to move onto the next phase of your life' ... I work in a tertiary system with students who have been incarcerated or expelled from every other school - my interesting students that are on the fringe of society or disenfranchised or stick in a rut of helplessness who have less than the basic schooling.
love jobs - mother, editor, mentor for upcoming authors, publisher
previous careers - Hospital Play Specialist, competitions coordinator (Pac Pubs), waitress, children's activity officer (on a cruise ship), author, scholar, teachers aide at a deaf school, service coordinator - coca cola, Process Officer for a PI, rebel, thorn in my parents eye ...
I'm a mom and wife all the time, and during the day I'm a writer for a healthcare technology company. The best thing about my job? My team is based in another state, so I work from home :)
Okay! I started to respond to everyone's jobs on here--there are so many fascinating ones--but my post became too long, lol I love reading what all of you do! @jinximages My 10-year-old daughter wants to do that. Whoo--dead people! She's taking a University sponsored forensics class right now and loves it.
I'm a stay at home mom, and I started a photography business (the real kind where you pay taxes and everything, not just open a "business" webpage on Facebook) and it started really taking off, but now we're about to leave the state, then the country. Talk about bad timing. So I guess for the foreseeable future, I'm unemployed : /
It so cool hearing about everyone's careers! Now I *really* wonder where people find time to do this project.
Hmm, I don't have just one job...so here is a list of the things I am paid to do:
Tattoo

Web Master
Graphic Artist ( http://stitchbladedesigns.com)

and when I get 5 minutes I am mother to a very very, snot nosed 5 yr old...
When I quit working in non-profit management to stay home with my girls, I thought it'd be all bon bons and talk shows....nope, somehow I manage to stay quite busy.
I was an elementary school secretary for 27 years, retired 3 years ago, and now I am a clerical substitute for the same district. I love subbing because I have the perks of the job - seeing the kids, parents, teachers and not the burden of a full time position. I can say "No" if I want to go out to lunch that day instead of working. It's a perfect fit for me! Love this thread!
I'm a writer. I work from home and do mostly freelance stuff, but also own my own business and run a few websites. Jumping from the 5 to 9 ship and being self-employed was a big career change, but it's the best decision I've ever made. With all of my free time I'm thinking about doing a little real estate photography on the side starting this summer.
I'm a stay at home mom to a 2 year old and 5 month old. I have my degree in Biology and worked in a microbiology lab for 2 1/2 years, I just recently became a stay at home mom.
I'm a Lean Business Consultant! I get to travel round all sorts of different companies to help them become more efficient. I've done work in an NHS operating theatre, a dairy, an electronics company, an optical retailer, a high street distibution centre...the list goes on. Needless to say every day is different and one of the tools we use is "go, look, understand" means you ahve to question everything you see. Photography fits nicely with this philosophy - open your eyes and you will see...
I am a Medical Secretary for two days a week, working in a GP practice in Wales. For the other three days I'm the area administrator for the Primare Care Dermatology clinic, specialising in suspected cancers. Mostly they are benign thankfully.
@saraneyer I am! My first YA is on Amazon and Barnes and Noble, I'm moving into adult paranormal fantasy now (by adult, I mean for for grown-ups, not the naughty stuff, lol).
My favorite YA writers are; Neil Gaiman, Cornelia Funke, Garth Nix, Rick Riordan's "Percy Jackson" series, Jodi Lynne Anderson's "May-Bird" series, Eric Nylund's "Mortal Coils" series, Brandon Mull's "Fablehaven" series, Derek Landy's "Skullduggery Pleasant" series and Suzanne Collins "Underland Chronicles," to name a few hundred, haha. Also, B.E. Maxwell has a very good first book out called "The Faerie Door" and he tells me he's writing a sequel to it, though it's been awhile!
I am a retired special education teacher. I taught mostly at the elementary school level. I retired almost three years ago. I am exploring various things right now (arts, crafts, photography, and a combination of these three activities).
@clarissajohal I *love* Garth Nix, particularly the Keys to the Kingdom series. So clever! I haven't heard of the Underland Chronicles, but like the rest of the country, I was enchanted by Hunger Games, so I'll have to check those out. Thanks for the tip!
Marketing turned stay-at-home mom. But I just picked up a part-time consulting gig for a televised retailer (any guesses?), to help them manage and grow their gift card program.
i am a technical support executive for a stock market software that delivers real time & delayed market data, news, company & employee portfolios etc. i work 9 hour shifts 5 days a week. i sometimes liaise for my family's small butterflies & insects business with their prospective clients. i earn extra by emceeing company events, weddings, parties, etc.
Ex-childcare...lol and currently a teachers assistant until I return home to Oz next year to start my own business again. Funny that so many of us who work with children end up doing photography...lol
@eos30me Thank you so much to Michael for starting this discussion. It is so incredibly fascinating to hear what everyone does for a living! We are such a diverse group from all over the globe. How cool is that!!
I'm a radiologic technologist at a large hospital. I do operating room imaging, trauma room imaging, ortho clinics, general ER and inpatient xray and fluoroscopy. I have just put myself back in school for sonography.
Let's see. Civil Engineer by early training. Taught Elementary and High School Math and Sciences for 5 years. Operated a group home for troubled youth for a few years. Foreign Missionary to Honduras for a couple of years. Back to Engineering and study for the Priesthood. Ordained as an Anglo Catholic Priest. Now retired from every thing except a counseling ministry for addicts and abusers and being the main lover and care-giver for my lovely bride of 41 years.
ps...My bride says I am also a servant for the 3 dogs, 5 cats, 1 macaw, 1 parrot, and whatever else shows up at the door!
I am a mum first and foremost to two children, but I make my money doing a little bit of photography here and there. I do portrait sittings and sell scenic prints
@jinximages OH MY GOODNESS!!! That is insane ;) I can't believe that's your real job....you have nerves of steel and thick thick skin to be able to do that. Wow. So interesting to me ; ) though I'd NEVER be able to do it.
So for my main salary, I'm a highschool art teacher. Art 1 level and Drawing 2 at the moment. Digital Graphics is my thing but the dummies took it away from me. I am also an Assistant Swim Coach at the high school.
On the weekends, you'll find me doing one of the many things I do to fulfill my plethora of passions (lol)
I sing in a band and travel around Texas...we have one cd out on iTunes, have scratch tracks for another that got put on hold. In fact this entire career adventure got put on hold since I've had my son. Things change. But I still play benefits and opening shows when asked. My last one we opened for Randy Rogers, that was pretty freaking awesome.
I am a wedding/portrait photographer with my friend Jenny. The business is under her name so I don't have to do anything but be creative. ;) love it. This is what I hope hope hope to do full time within our goal time frame of 2 years. http://www.jwbaugh.com
I write novels and I have decided that @clarissajohal is my new best friend. ;) lol I write Adult Paranormal, and I do mean the naughty stuff....just Norah Roberts naughty, not porn naughty. And I guess the current one I'm writing would be considered YA.
I am also an artist, I draw, paint, and do graphic design work for wedding vendors that need a helping hand with things such as business cards, website design, flyer and banner design, etc.
I am also a Beachbody Coach. (I know at this point you are like, is she for real?? Yes...I like to burn both ends of my candle) I conquered P90X last year and moved onto Insanity and loved it so much that I coach to help others get fit and feel great about themselves through Beachbody workout videos. http://www.beachbodycoach.com/coachstarsky
And to top it all off, my most important job- I am a wife and a mom of a beautiful 2 year old boy. I love him to pieces and pieces.
@amyhughes Whoo! Okay--I'll need to check out your books--are they on Amazon? (Because you can find everything on Amazon, you know. In fact, I'm thinking of shopping for a new mother on Amazon, lol)
And wow! You do everything! I don't know how you find time to write!
@clarissajohal I haven't published anything yet, though I really want to. That's why I was pumping you for info about the process. ;) I've let several English teachers read my work and they have begged me to do more, I took that as a good sign, though I'm green and I know editors would have a field day with me.
@amyhughes crikey thats a full life and your a mom.
My life is pretty tame after that lot, I work in Local Government IT doing the usual stuff fixing PC's, networks and makng sure things run smoothly when needed. But my best job is being dad for my two boys aged 6 and 9 (very soon 10). Computers used to be a hobby now its my bread and butter, so photography has become my passion.
I'm the book-buyer for Tate Britain & Tate Modern in London. I buy lots of new books on art, design and photography (of course!) to be sold in the shops and exhibitions.
Sometimes, when no-one is around, I pile up books and make sentences out of titles / spines:
:)
I am a teaching assistant in a special school. I work in an early years/foundation class with a group of children aged between 5-7. All have varied needs, some are children with Autism, some ADHD, some Global Developmental Delay etc. It is a very satisfying role.
Within the school I also work as a teacher of Drama to a group of senior children who are understaking entry level qualifications. I also run an after school Drama club which is great fun.
I`m the type of guy who can never really keep a job for more then 3 months.Usually the jobhunting takes more time than the actual job will last.I don`t have any special skills for anything, becayse I did not give a damn about school (not regretting it,mostly pointing my fingers at others for it) ..let`s see:
-working as a mineral water distribuitor, riding with the driver all day long and unloading water to stores/supermarkets. That lasted 4 days
-working in a car-electrical wireing factory. Basically standing in one spot for 8-10 hours, plugging in 6 different colored small wires in a little plastic end,and then isolating it with tape in a speciffic way.one screwup and alotta people would be on me.These parts go in your car`s doors.I quit due to stress and bad pay
-working 3 months as a construction helper at a house, for 2 "pro"-s,basically mixing cement, painting walls, heat isolation.. I quit because it was in a city 40 km away and was going/comming from there each day
-working in Slovakia, where they guaranteed me a well-paid job at a PC assemblary factory. When I got there, they put me in an automobile-engine factory.Packed my bags in 5 days and got back home
-working at a construction-material factory that opened up in my town ("Owens Corning"),so far, that`s where I set my record, keeping it for 7 months. The pay was good, but the stress and excessive dust/conditions wasn`t.That was my last legit job, here in Romania
-working in Belgium,on a tomatoe-plantation,for allmost 4 months.Season work.Sounds lame.It was the hardest,yet the best job I had,so far.They want me back this year,too,but sadly,I don`t think I`ll make it back.
...so,since july 2010,I`m unemployed, and, right about now realising I need to start looking for jobs. It sucks, because there absolutely nothing around here that will not get me depressed, soon after I get hired.
P.s.- Jinx here is probably the closest thing to a real life superhero/action hero ( @jinximages )
I started my career as a nurse, then worked in the vascular lab as a sonographer, now after a degree in business psychology am the manager of the echosonography, vascular and neurologic departments at a hospital. It's funny when I think about the fact that I was taking "pictures" of patient's body parts, now still taking pictures of other scenes, items, objects. I guess I'm just meant to constantly make pictures.
@momeraths oh girl, you are better than I am!! I did P90X first, and was scared to death of insanity!! And rightfully so, it kicked my butt! I am taking a break and doing ChaLean Extreme before I try that one again....it still scares me ;) haha
I'm a Medical Laboratory Technician, working the Microbiology Department. I'm one of the people who figure out what sort of infection you have and how to best treat it.
I am a student, studying Education Studies & English and graduate in July. Hopefully in September I will be training to be a Primary school Teacher! (My interview is on the 19th! eeek).
I'm a Gold Buyer.. I sit around and pay people for their gold.. Whether it be old, broken jewelry or nice fresh new jewelry, gold coins, ingots, gold teeth {eww} you name it, If it's gold we generally buy it lol It's a job where you get to meet many different/interesting characters and see some really REALLY unique stuff!
i'm a program coordinator, very non-descript title lol.
i work for a government department which looks after the roads and transport networks for our state.
basically i monitor the "program of work" (the road planning projects) assist with financial planning and forecasting and then move money around different projects as it is needed or not, and through different years etc on a 5yr plan. the team i'm in is network planning, and we look after the metropolitan region, the largest in the state. also provide reports on the status of funding and expenditure, and other projecty related things. gosh it all sounds so boring when i type it out lol.
hmm, didn't mean to make it sound like a frikkin resume hahaha
oh and i wouldn't be a teacher if you tripled my salary, no way in ..... however i do coach/teach peers on systems, hmm, maybe i can teach haha.
haha, michael you should have titled this "what do you do for a living now?" or maybe "what HAVE you done for a living?" i'd like to see your list lol *hint*
i've done the following:
sales (thank god i was young enough to stand the boredom)
office b!tch for coal mine
mummy
loss prevention & supervisor for kmart (security)
mummy
web/graphics designer/hoster
mummy
taxi driver
mummy
nail technician
mummy
worked in traffic management centre (BEST frikkin job ever, loved it)
and then into project work where i remain
@taidster lol!! I said that too about teaching...but I gotta say, the 3 months off in the summer and holidays and weekends sold me. Gives me time to do all these other things :)
I have a bachelor of arts in psychology, but I'm not currently using my degree. I work part-time for a courier company, which is usually pretty good. I'm currently searching for a full-time job to actually utilitize my degree, which is proving harder than I'd like!
I am a Carpenter at a University. My goal is to show you the inside of my world. Places you normally would not get to see. Mechanical rooms, inside ceilings, rooftop views of the city. That sort of stuff. Oh and to have a lot of fun doing it!
I tried to find the last thread on this subject so I could just copy and paste but I couldn't find it.
I'm an Information and Referral Specialist for a local non-profit agency. We help people find resources when they need help. We also have senior programs and one in particular helps people get out of nursing homes and back into the community buy helping them with a deposit, furniture, food, or whatever they need. I LOVE my job!
I have a BA degree in Art. I currently work part-time as marketing coordinator/graphic artist for a small title company in the Cleveland area. Not my dream job, but it's something that allows me to get money in the bank while I search for a full time job. My full time job (dream job) would be anything to do with graphic production artist/photographer/illustrator/graphics for a firm/advertising/marketing company. I'm a very creative person so I hate the idea of being cooped up in a regular office 9-5. It isn't who I am, and that's what I'm doing right now for the meantime. :(
I am a graphic designer at an advertising company. It's something that I had always wanted to do, but now find that it is not very fulfilling. I wish I had a job that I could do more to help people and be able to be creative. I guess I just don't know what to be when I grow up. =)
I graduated as a Teacher major in English but I've been working in a Call Center for almost 6 years now. I was a Call Center Supervisor for a US Satellite TV service before but now working as a Call Center Supervisor for US Flexible Spending Account (Sorry I can't disclose the names of the company :-). I want to go full time Photographer but I guess it's that easy. Need to learn more and I'm happy getting tips, ideas and inputs from 365!
I'm a programmer/analyst. I do tech support, programming, property management, and some web work. I work for a subcontractor for NASA, and have worked on ICESat, and TOPEX, two different satellites.
I am a project manager's assistant for a global engineering and environmental consulting firm. I absolutely LOVE my job - being a part of the solution feels pretty good!
Donation Processor for a non-profit organisation. I love my job because it involves publishing translating and distributing the Word of God to people around the world and at a price they can afford.
My husband writes the code, I make sure everything runs smoothly and help come up with ideas for game play, and do some of the advertising.
Other than that just housework and gardening. Used to work in radio and for Lifetouch (go ahead, gag if you want, but we were the biggest territory). Skill set is so specific that it's been hard to transfer since moving to Oz.
I'm retired and loving it. I like take pictures and this 365 project after just a few days is teaching me that it is more about being creative. So I am trying to look at my pictures differently. This is going to be interesting and fun.
I teach kindergarten and go to school full time. I have fantasies of traveling the world and snapping random photographs of trees, cathedrals, and laughing friends... well, that and of my little munchkins learning to read before the school year is over! :)
Right now im a graduating art student.. But I do part time jobs here and there. Hopefully when I graduate I can find some job related to my course (industrial design) :)
@jinximages Wow, that's a fascinating day job, but I don't think I could do it. I got faint at a college presentation by our state's investigation bureau that included some graphic pictures.
I was a statistician/risk analyst, then became a special education teacher. I primarily taught students with moderate to severe disabilities.
I now work at the state level as a special education coordinator. We train teachers on compliance, assessment, etc. Very varied responsibilities, though right now I'm neck deep in development of a new state alternate assessment for students with the most severe disabilities.
I miss working directly with kids. I had so much more patience with them than I do now with adults.
run into burning buildings and cut cars apart and dive in the rivers (firefighter / ems) and had run a photo studio, but now just do photography freelance because of medic class. and have an addiction to bbq smoking
And I'm a teacher too! Almost cliched by this point. Middle School French (a far cry from Kindergarten, my original goal) and Computer Skills through my local library.
I'd like to switch to something related to Photography/Art/Writing and/or get my Ph.D. in Canadian History.... but I need to pay some loans off first.
Day by day friends :)
Used to work in a studio as a portrait photographer, nearly killed my love of the art. Became a teacher and always done photography on the side. Have just started selling my landscapes both here in Australia and overseas which is pretty awesome. :0)
Retired insurance broker, and this go around council aide (read staff person) to Denver City Councilman Charlie Brown. Such a fun job! Never a dull moment in municipal politics.
I was a CCO (Unqualified social worker) but since I upped sticks and moved into a little village near the sea I've had nothing for about 9 weeks.
For 8 years I used to work with children with autism and challenging behavior going into families homes to support long term to try and help them stay with their parents, almost like a final last ditch attempt before other long term care choice needed to be looked at. That was the most rewarding job I've done and I have a lot of good friends because of that also.
Ultimately though a job will only ever fund my life, it will never 'be my life' and therefore if a job came up stacking shelves I'd be on it like a rash.
@jinximages
My Hubby is a police Sgt. and I'm a photographer. lol He was the K9 officer for 9 yrs and has seen about all of it. So we kindof have something in common!! lol
im a stay at home mum which is a lame title for super busy mother of 2 young boys who are insanely active crazy and full of life... and attitude, tantrums, wrestling... you get the picture.
i used to work in retail but, i did study graphic design and freelance occasionally :)
@photogmom I've got a lot of respect for those guys. When I was new to the job I used to help the Doggies on training days - running tracks for them, getting bitten (with the arm guards). Good times. :)
I work as a Mine Geologist in an underground Lead/Zinc/Silver mine in Outback Australia. Good fun and I'm planning to put some photo's up here of my work environment. Should be a blast :)
I'm a freelance consultant for humanitarian aid agencies - hence the combination in my 365 of photos from faraway places (the humanitarian bit) and lots of pictures inside my flat (the freelance, working from home bit).
I graduated in May with a degree in Education, but I'm currently in a paid volunteer position with Americorps working for a program called City Year Detroit. I tutor and mentor students in a Detroit high school and we also do various service projects throughout the metro area.
I am a househeepker in a nursing home. I love going to work and visiting with all my residents. They are the only parents/grandparents I have. I LOVE them all!
I am a registered nurse working with older people in the community and I love my job most days - not the administrative side though, nursing should be about people but invariably it is being dominated by record-keeping now :(
@koshi I was a stay at home mom for over 20 years. I got a job outside the home for the first time 3 years ago. I figured my son was 15 and between him and my hubby they could handle things at home while I'm at work. I absolutely LOVE my job but was very happy to have the ability to stay home while my kids were growing up.
I work @ private school (graphic design / communications / marketing / web / volleyball coach) ... also doing grad school to get my Masters of Art in Art Education (hoping to teach Elementary Art down the road) :) http://danimariedesigns.blogspot.com/
Wow! So many teachers here! I would've been a art teacher if I wanted to. Maybe someday. My deafness is stopping me from 'teaching'.. I'm always worried if anybody wouldn't be able to understand me. Silly, I know.
Funny... LOTS of teachers... I guess we like this sort of thing! I'm a newly retired high school econ/english teacher now running our new business from our home. I'm learning LOTS of stuff about running a business, but many of the skills I used in the day-to-day of teaching are serving me well now... whoda thunk it?
I am happily retired from paid employment. I used to be a chem lab tech for a major chemical company. I, now, am a mixed media artist mostly working in fiber at the moment, I have sold a quite a few paintings, and assemblage pieces in the past.
I retired 15 years ago from a UK police force as Superintendent dealing with computer systems. After retirement I fitted out an ocean going sailing yacht (with help) then set off - with my wife of course!
So many cool jobs on here! And some of you do so much! I graduated English Philology in Bulgaria, and I can work as an English techer/interpreter/translator. I've taught Bulgarian to foreigners for a while and that's how I met my husband. For the last four years we've been traveling back and forth across the ocean and my only job was to be Jeremy's better half :-) Now I finally got my Green Card so I guess I'll be looking for something else to do, apart from volunteering :-)
I am a retired Health Visitor, but have worked my own practise as a natural health practitioner for over ten years, and am learning constantly. I suppose I've had a bit of a sabbatical over the past couple of years, concentrating more on my family, and my own health. Hence I come to be part of the 365 Project, enormous fun and again, hugely enlightening!
I'm a Mum (best job in the world - worst pay!).
I'm an Independent Creative Professional (!? - I make handmade jewellery).
And I'm an in-class aide to a young Autistic boy (going in to Year 10 this year).
In a former life I was a high school teacher, plus many, many other things...
@jenninoel Thanks Jennifer, but remember, you're never too old to retrain, particularly in oncology (nursing, radiographer etc). I started my degree when I was 30, some of my colleagues have retrained in their 40's, infact, when doing a caring role, you prob need some life experience under your belt, there is no way I could have done my job straight outta school!
If you're talking about things I get paid for -- well I'm a news producer/writer, a waitress, and a self-employed photographer. I'm also an animal caregiver (with 5 pets) and I help occasionally with my fiancé's film projects.
Very interesting thread! I'm counselor for a suicide hotline. @lovesscrapn
As a side line, I'm also a first aid instructor for the Canadian Red Cross and I recently became an instructor trainer.
I am a Paramedic. I was an accountant and became burnt out with it. I also write for magazines. Photography is a hobby and a reason to go for a walk in the woods. I love photographing senics and animals
@taidster Ah my list is very short..it goes like this..
Newspaper round
Store Clerk
Sales Clerk
Merchandise sales person for 1 day at Wembly Stadium for a Rolling Stones concert (on the pitch)
Book Keeper
Office Manager
ps all my normal roles have been with the same company, just moved up. Have decided to move on this year though. Time for a change.
@eos30me lol @ the stones' concert mention haha ;-))
i also did the same job, for 1 day also, at a "big day out" on the gold coast once, and my stand was right next to the stage, foo fighters freekin rocked man, omg they were incredible :)) but, sore fee much?? omg :((
@taidster That would have been very cool! I felt very lucky to be watching the stones while getting paid! Wow did the fans spend up big time, but they stopped buying during the show, meaning we could just take it all in and enjoy it :)
I'm a planner for a brand implementation team. I work with HR, my department managers and sometimes the project managers on resource allocation. I also help design presentation graphics and assist the managers as needed.
I am recently back in the workforce after five years at home. I am part SAHM and also work part-time working in a crime prevention and community safety role in local government.
I work as an assistant to 3 Neuropsychologists with aspirations of being a Neuropsychologist myself one day. I just started my senior year in a Bachelor's of Psychology Program. After I graduate my next professional stepping stone will be becoming a Neuropsychometrician.
Professionally I am the graphic artist for a gourmet food co. Located here in San Francisco. I produce ads, design labels and packaging materials, and take all of the product shots for the company. I was educated to be a teacher and rather fell haphazardly into the business of being a professional artist. At an intermediate stage in regards to my photography. :)
@eos30me I saw the Stones at Wembley Stadium on the Bridges to Babylon Tour. I thought I had died and gone to heaven, they were so amazing. My lifelong heroes. Best bit of alltho. I WON the tickets on a radio show and also got a free train ride to London because there was no way to buy a ticket. Just paid about £2,30 for the tube :) Added bonus. Sheryl Crow was support
I am a mom and I work at a school as their Community Liaison. I get to set up guest speakers, field trips and special presentations which means that my days are always changing. Super fun job!
so many amazing careers represented here! very impressive.
i've been lucky enough to be a stay at home mom for many years but my youngest is now 15 and i'm in the process of figuring out the next chapter. . .
@dmortega Autopsies are a surreal affair. Funny though - I'd rather go to a hundred of those than one murder scene (from an emotional standpoint). I never have to "get my head around" a post-mortem examination, but scenes themselves can get to me sometimes.
I manage a team of 5 project managers in the hospitality industry. My territory is the Western Hemisphere...too bad I don't get to travel much! I'm also a part-time student at the Art Institute and mother of 3. :)
@jinximages lol i was on a course last year at AIM and there was a chick in my group doing the supervisor job in your feild (but for afp) and works in the building next to where i work in brissy lol ... it seems you get the same response she was telling us she gets when she mentions it. its like a magnet huh....hollywood has provided instant popularity lol. sorry, i just find it a bit funny, like to watch the reactions from the sidelines hehe, i'm an introverted ovserver haha.
but i gotta ask, OMG don't you get sick of cameras haha ... you must REALLY love photos, well i guess as you do such a great job, it is absolutely your calling :))
Just starting my first 365 project....bought myself a Nikon D3000 for my birthday...treated myself....I have been a flight attendant for 23 years...Absolutely love my job,,,Been flying international, so I think I will come up with some great shots out there.....This is going to be fun....
@taidster I do get sick of the CSI references. When a kid asks if I'm like Grisham or some such thing I say, "No, more like Dexter." Always gets a giggle.
I was a photog before I got into forensic science, so it feels natural to have a camera in my hand no matter the job I'm doing. The popularity of forensic science with TV shows and such is tiring (the endless stream of questions, and especially the "You'll get a fingerprint off this!" because they saw it on television, or the ones who tell you everything the "bad guy" did because they worked it all out, even though they're clearly wrong, and won't listen when I point out what actually occurred) but it is also nice that people welcome me when I show up, unlike the treatment other Police get. I'll take the tedious questions any day over the yelling, abuse, spitting, and general ill-treatment that comes with regular police work.
and yeah they usually get a raw deal, we need more, but wow its not as appealing these days. its funny, when i was a young teen the "only" thing i wanted to be was a cop (i think it was the uniform lmao) but NOW you could not pay me enough.
and yeah, its not my job, but you've practically got to pry a camera from my fingers, and i'm SO enjoying finally actually learning what i'm doing, somewhat lol. :)
I work with psychiatric clients, trying to help them every day with everything :)
it depends on the client. Sometimes it's just having a cup of tea and a chat, the other time it's going to the shrink together. Or learning them how to cook, how to clean.
Making pictures gives me a lot of rest after a hard day at work :)
I'm a Dental Therapist for the Government Dental Service in Tasmania. Means I do dental treatment on kids 0 - 18 years old, which can be very satisfying, extremely stressful and perplexing and usually all at the same time. Am the Acting Senior at the moment, so not seeing too much actual clinical stuff these days - also moonlight as a novice art student through correspondence with Curtin Uni on the other side of the country
I am Customer Service & Operations Manager for Airline Industry. My customers are TAM(The major Brazilian Airline) and EMBRAER(One of the major aircraft manufacturers worldwide). It have been a challenging job, but after 7 years..I am looking for a less stressful life. Planning a change in my carrer and my way of living.
I retired early from a telecommunications company (I worked for them for 30 years), and now I work in retail part time..... I'm also a single mom to one 13 yr old... HARDEST JOB EVER!
Fun thread! Lots of interesting jobs!! I am a Financial Consultant but really wish I was a stay at home wife. :) I should of been born in a totally different era I guess! lol
I currently get paid to be a medical software tech consultant combo snackpack. Funny thread, this. I have often remarked to myself that a large percentage of the medical offices I visit seem to be decorated with prints of photos taken by the physicians employed there. Might be a medical connection too. There are 12 replies here from nurses. If all goes as planned I'll be among them. Wish me luck! :)
I'm currently a full-time homemaker and caregiver for my elderly mother and have been a stay-at-home-mom for most of my adult life, but in the past I've had a few unusual jobs. I once did telemarketing for a cemetery and gave away free graves; I've worked with animals on a horse farm, for a animal hospital, and also at a pet shop; and one summer I worked as a beer-slinging wench at the Bristol Renaissance Faire in southern Wisconsin!
makeup artist trained for film and tv but i do weddings and other stuff i also face paint for kids parties and adult halloween parties etc..but special effect ie blood guts and bruises are my fav....red carpet stuff is ok but not as much fun
I'm an Administrative Asst to a Produce Buyer for a large grocery chain. I have my MLS, but I can't find a library job so until I come up w/ plan B I will continue to buy truckloads of onions (and avocados, pineapple, sweet potatoes, herbs, mushrooms, greens, tomatoes...)
Nice mix of all different careers. Me, I am currently an at home mum while studying part time. Before giving birth to my beautiful baby boy I was a communications/marketing guru.
I am a Project Manager for a company that sells, services and supports cash register and computer point of sale systems. Not the dream job (dog trainer or photographer) but it pays the bills.
I could say, "I'm JUST a Stay-at-home-mom" but honestly, this job is sooo much more taxing and exhuasting than when I ran retail clothing stores working 60-85hrs a week! I LOVE being a tired mom, always volunteering, always on the move, always laughing with my kids and their friends, and try to always have a camera close by.
Now, to learn all the fancy stuff you shee-shee photographers are doing to make your pictures look fantastic... I'm so glad I joined this project. This will only make me a better photographer, even with my little Nikkon D40 (love it!).
18 wheels and rolling.... I'm an over-the-road truck driver. I keep my camera with me to show my friends this wonderful country of ours. My pictures are not professional quality, but I have developed sort of a "fan club". I'm here by invitation from one of my friends.
I'm a full time dog rescuer. I pull death row dogs out of high kill shelters for rescues, transport, foster and volunteer with a local rescue. I get paid with wagging tails and wet kisses. Long hours, no pay and I sleep very well at night.
Currently working at my local TV station as Telecue. And I also starting part time teaching at my old college in my old program "Journalism: Print and Broadcast".
I'm the enterprise reports analyst for a computer security software company. My background is accounting and IT, so I wound up writing computer programs to produce financial reports for our sales and accounting departments. Photography is my hobby, but I'd love to eventually do it at least semi-professionally.
I'm a teacher-librarian. I teach 6Math, high school Geography on Moodle, and middle school language arts Title I, and am the district librarian in a rural K-12 district.
I am an Independent Team Beachbody Coach. I have the greatest job working from home helping people lead healthy and fit lives, while at the same time, being a stay-at-home mom to three great kids and a wife to the man of my dreams.
I work as DSW. That is a direct services worker. I work at Florence Crittenton home of Wheeling WV We work with females ages 12-21 in residentail facility we deal with pregnant, parenting and troubled teens. This is a very rewarding job but also very stressful.
I work work and work, but I think that working is not the one in my life. Now I plan my vacation every month, that will make me more happy. Travelling and reading are the most interesting things in my life. I just started join "365 Project" and I hope that I could upload a photo every.
@makasper...haha, thanks!! I actually love it...it's very rewarding and at the K level the kids still think you're awesome!! :) Now those upper levels would be a different story...lol! Retail...ugh...I've done that, too...don't like those hours :S And the mom part...you've got that right...definitely the hardest, yet most rewarding and amazing job EVER!!!
I work for three small foundations. We make a magazine to empower women and the jobless, give help and aid to the unfortunate and talk for hours to politicians to try to make the world a better place to live in. With the aid, help en mag with sometimes with some succes, with the politicians with no succes whathowever. :)
I'm actually without a job because I'm ill and unfit for work as they call it. Nontheless I'm happy and maybe I'll work some day, don't know in wich field. But now I have the time to brows on the internet and look at all the beautiful pictures everyone makes.
With start of my career I used to jump from aircrafts...ha ha ha..then did so many more things in same job....now I don't jump anymore but still do many crazy things...you may have guessed by now, I am in Army...but not that I feel out of place amongst so many teachers because was also a teacher for some time teaching cadets and young officers....
I am an editor of educational materials. I transcribe math books into Braille and edit the very visual math books so that blind children can use them. I must change many exercises to accessible ones and draw tactile pictures, too. I also edit math books to accessible electronic books for the blind students.
@eos30me I am a full time student and full time mom...so yes there are two of me! hahahah This is my first year trying this project. I am a few days late but Im starting now! :)
I am a learning and development professional, which probably means nothing to most people reading this...;o)
Basically, my passion and profession are all things to do with workplace learning, and I advise organisations on how to provide effective learning opportunities and resources for their staff members.
@eos30me I am actually a glass bead maker... but have always walked around with a camera... I love the satisfaction of "getting" that perfect shot. This is my first year of the project... What an great place this is!
Hi, I'm an architect and love to photograph buildings and the built environment, however, the 365 has given me inspiration to photo other stuff.
9 days in and i'm lovin' it! :0)
I'm a stay at home mum. Gave up dental nursing to look after my family. Don't know if I'll go back to it as I waqnt to go to college. Photography is one thing I would love to do.
I used to be a professional photographer but in 2010 I made the big leap and became an amateur. :-) I'm back in school full time as an art major with a photography emphasis in a new town that I just moved to the week before last semester started. Now that I am mostly settled in, I'll probably hang out my shingle and be a pro again.
@kjarn you sound like you're doing my dream job!!
I've been lucky enough to have had 3 jobs in my life that I've loved.......teaching, private gardener and now a probate genealogist, tracing relatives of those who die without leaving a will. (Heir Hunters)
@kjarn Criminology and Forensic Studies currently, but I want to go more into forensic/criminal/medical psychology I've decided :) Working in psychiatric asylums such as broadmoor is my ideal :) And perfect since I live basically next door to it!
What interesting jobs people have!
I'm a student, getting my Master of Marketing, but also work in a marketing role for a speed camera company
I'm a chartered accountant and when I moved to France to follow the hubby, I don't practice the profession for now. I'm still into Finance though, working in a Credit Insurance company.
I also manage 4 teenagers -lol - school,sports
I'm a waitress and have been for the last 16 years.
not as interesting as some other jobs, but some days are more interesting than others...luckily holiday is over so it's not that busy....
paid title is casual teacher but I prefer to and tell the little lambs 'I don't teach you anything ...
@jinximages My 10-year-old daughter wants to do that. Whoo--dead people! She's taking a University sponsored forensics class right now and loves it.
It so cool hearing about everyone's careers! Now I *really* wonder where people find time to do this project.

I am an adult YA fanatic and LOVE paranormal! Are you published? Got any good recommendations?
@3littleks Wait... surely you get paid for your photos?
@jinximages That must be one 'eck of a dayjob!

I am a therapy radiographer, which means that unlike @momeraths I do not take x-rays, but I use them to treat cancer. If you've ever had radiotherapy as part of your cancer treatment I'm one of the team who'll deliver the treatment daily for several weeks and help and support you during this time! I work in a pretty amazing hospital in London. This neat cartoon sums up my job! http://chillibean.net/perl/sohosoho/player/player.pl?token=13509I57%3Bsource%3Demail%3Bemailid%3D2994%3Bautoplay%3D1
I am a mum first and foremost to two children, but I make my money doing a little bit of photography here and there. I do portrait sittings and sell scenic prints

And wow! You do everything! I don't know how you find time to write!
:)~
Sometimes, when no-one is around, I pile up books and make sentences out of titles / spines:
:)
Within the school I also work as a teacher of Drama to a group of senior children who are understaking entry level qualifications. I also run an after school Drama club which is great fun.
I love my job,
I`m the type of guy who can never really keep a job for more then 3 months.Usually the jobhunting takes more time than the actual job will last.I don`t have any special skills for anything, becayse I did not give a damn about school (not regretting it,mostly pointing my fingers at others for it) ..let`s see:
No you aren't..what is it you do?
i work for a government department which looks after the roads and transport networks for our state.
basically i monitor the "program of work" (the road planning projects) assist with financial planning and forecasting and then move money around different projects as it is needed or not, and through different years etc on a 5yr plan. the team i'm in is network planning, and we look after the metropolitan region, the largest in the state. also provide reports on the status of funding and expenditure, and other projecty related things. gosh it all sounds so boring when i type it out lol.
hmm, didn't mean to make it sound like a frikkin resume hahaha
oh and i wouldn't be a teacher if you tripled my salary, no way in ..... however i do coach/teach peers on systems, hmm, maybe i can teach haha.
:)
i've done the following:
sales (thank god i was young enough to stand the boredom)
office b!tch for coal mine
mummy
loss prevention & supervisor for kmart (security)
mummy
web/graphics designer/hoster
mummy
taxi driver
mummy
nail technician
mummy
worked in traffic management centre (BEST frikkin job ever, loved it)
and then into project work where i remain
LOL
anyone else want to make their list ??
;)
We have a video on YouTube of us playing live of Fox 26 news. It's pretty funny, I was about 4 or 5 weeks pregnant then and had no idea.
I'm an Information and Referral Specialist for a local non-profit agency. We help people find resources when they need help. We also have senior programs and one in particular helps people get out of nursing homes and back into the community buy helping them with a deposit, furniture, food, or whatever they need. I LOVE my job!
Karen
Metro Detroit, Michigan, USA
We'll see what happens.
My dream job would be a SAHM. ( Stay At Home Mom)
:)
I'm student teaching right now and hope to one day teach kindergarten! :)
im a student :) and acting.... the $ goes to school. *sigh*
I'm a librarian at a college regional/branch campus (1st/2nd year college students) which should explain most of my pics. :)
@keithdavid Love "How I Met Your Mother" :)
I'd like to switch to something related to Photography/Art/Writing and/or get my Ph.D. in Canadian History.... but I need to pay some loans off first.
Day by day friends :)
Welcome to 365!
My Hubby is a police Sgt. and I'm a photographer. lol He was the K9 officer for 9 yrs and has seen about all of it. So we kindof have something in common!! lol
i used to work in retail but, i did study graphic design and freelance occasionally :)
I was an accountant with two degrees. Currently unemployed. So there you go.
I love my job! :)

More details about that are here for anyone really interested!
@jinximages --- My daughter's senior project was to job shadow the autopsy coordinator at a major hospital here. She found it fascinating.
I have a vague memory of what sleep was... but it's fading.
I'm NOT a photographer (not even close, lol!), but I wanted to document a year in our life :)
i've been lucky enough to be a stay at home mom for many years but my youngest is now 15 and i'm in the process of figuring out the next chapter. . .
