Private Messaging

I absolutely love this site, so much so that I upgraded my account. With that said, would anyone else be interested in a private messaging option or a way of contacting artists/submitters directly? There have been several occassions when I myself would like to send a personal message. Just throwing this out for public consumption. I think this is a wonderfully developed website and a great resource to the budding photographer.

It is definitely something that has come up before; however, I think that so far it hasn't happened because there's not much you can't just type as a comment to someone's photo. There have been a couple of occasions where I've thought, "Hey, are you related to so-and-so?" and wanted to ask, but that doesn't seem like something you'd type in a comment, so I don't. But mostly, if I have something to say to someone, I type it in their comments. I've got very little to hide ; )

I thought about it too.. that it would be a great add on to the site.. but then again you can always put in a comment for the person to contact your though e-mail address.. I have mine posted on my profile "description" if ever anyone ever wanted to talk to me.

@ashleyjwilson I entirely agree. This was provoked by a request for specific images. I had to email them to another member, because obviously they weren't available in this album and it wasn't practical to fill the album with them. It just would have been a bit simpler if there was an option to provide contact info (ie. email). I reference the site often, but deviantart.com offers a similar option, in which you can send a dedicated message to someone aside from posting a public critique/comment.

I thought that it'd be useful also. Would be nice.

@jcrowley40 Ah. This is the only photography site I use, so I don't know about the features of others. That makes sense. I have my e-mail address in my profile, but I understand that's not for everyone. You make a good point.

I would love that too. I think it could be incredibly helpful, especially on advice discussions. Get more one-on-one with another person

I guess if you want people to be able to contact you, you would have your contact info in your profile, if its not there. whats the harm in asking someone for it ,?
