FYI....

January 9th, 2011
North Texans will be geeked up and posting snow photos for today. Get ready to witness what we call a blizzard...I'm sure you northerners will have a good laugh. :D

lol

LMAO! I'm from the North, but live in North Texas....nobody gets geekier over snow than I do! LOVE IT!

I'm from MN and just moved to Tulsa, OK a week ago. People are in a panic here too....for a mere 1.5 inches :)
January 9th, 2011
I thought it was only the folks here in central Virginia that panicked over a forecast of snow and raced to the store for milk and toilet paper.
January 9th, 2011
its not just the UK (scotland) that has shortages of milk in the snowy days then ! lol
January 9th, 2011
We just got the basics before the snow started - dr. pepper, milk, red bull, and cigarettes :)

I had a good laugh this morning. The national news morning shows were talking about what a "crippling" storm the southeast was bracing for. Then finally, they said it could bring as much as, are you ready? 6 inches of snow!!!! We get another 6 inches every 15 minutes in Western, NY.
January 9th, 2011
@jgoodridge I have about that much in my yard now. I don't think it's the snow that gets us, it's the not being able to prepare the roadways etc. We seriously wore flip flops yesterday. Texas is insane.
January 9th, 2011
@sdpace good luck. in all seriousness, i know it can cause real problems if you aren't equipped to deal with it on a regular basis.
January 9th, 2011
Haha... Birmingham, Alabama here. We did go to the store today to get some canned and boxed food, and you should have seen the bread aisle. ALL GONE. But I was born in Colorado, so I'm not too concerned. Plus, snow makes for good pictures!
January 9th, 2011
Oh man, I'm so jealous. It has snowed in my hometown a total of 2 times in my life. They were spaced about 14 years apart, and probably resulted in about 1 MAYBE 2 inches of snow.
Oooh California.
January 9th, 2011
Well they are in for a white ride because it will be in Georgia after midnight (fingers crossed, fingers crossed!)
January 9th, 2011
@tnamari I'm in GA too. The stores are nuts and people are freaking out so much. I'm sure it's gonna snow but everyone around here is acting like it's gonna be the end of the world because we have a chance of 6 inches!
January 9th, 2011
you called it! My Texan friends on Facebook are posting pics of snow too.
January 9th, 2011
We are supposed to get some tonight here in GA, I secretly hope it is more than it was on Christmas night. I am originally from Oregon, and although we never got a ton of snow in the Willamette Valley, we got enough for me to miss it here in Georgia.
January 9th, 2011
@allie912 I thought that was a North Carolina thing? lol
January 9th, 2011
@jennarichards I went at 9:30 this morning, my first job was at a foodlion and I know how crazy it gets when there is a threat. I just hope we don't lose power, but we will be okay if we do, we heat by wood.
January 9th, 2011
@amorton1437 I hope for more too-we got snow the day after Christmas, no accumalation :(
January 9th, 2011
@tnamari We had about 1/2 an inch that lasted maybe 2 hours lol. Then the good ole Georgia rain kicked in and ruined my fun!
January 9th, 2011
@moonpig (I'm guilty of FB snow pics)

@sdpace

Love this thread. I'm grinning, of course, being from the midwest. But I get it that it's tough to drive in areas where they're not equipped.

@jgoodridge Your response made me laugh out loud!

Good luck all you guys with the rare snowfalls that are coming your way. I hope you all are safe and take great pics!
January 10th, 2011
@tnamari Yeah I don't mind the snow and even ice. I can stay home. That's not a problem. it's losing power I am worried about. My husband is lighting a fire now but this house is going to get cold quick if the power goes out.
January 10th, 2011
@jgoodridge You're just like me... I laugh how it's national news when an eastern state gets 2 inches, but we can get 2 feet in 6 hours here in Wyoming and it's nothing...

I don't care where you're from, there's no reason to "prepare" for 6 inches of snow. It's only 6 inches?! LOL. Yes, I'm biased, since I've lived the majority of my life in Wyoming, but I just don't get how it's a big deal. Cars can still drive in it, ya know? I spent 3 years in NJ, and just chuckled every winter when I'd have snow days from college because of a half of an inch of snow.
January 10th, 2011
@hmgphotos Unfortunately, it's the city who doesn't prepare. Today, a quarter of our snow melted. Tonight it will be mid-20's. Tomorrow we will have sheets of ice until the temp raises after noon. We don't have salt and sand truck brigades or winterized tires. ...and since nobody here knows how to drive on the slick stuff, it's better to just stay home. It'll be gone tomorrow afternoon anyway.
January 10th, 2011
@sdpace Oooo the whole staying inside thing applies anywhere there is snow, LOL! If I didn't have work or school I'd nearly always choose to stay inside when it's snowy!!
