Hi all! I've been shooting a lot outside this month, and it's COLD where I live. I'm wearing thin knit gloves, and I'm wondering if anyone has any recommendations for thin, but warm gloves to use when shooting outside. My fingers are going numb in the gloves, but thicker gloves are too bulky! Anyone else dealing with this and have a suggestion?
I picked up a pair of Coach lambskin leather gloves at the Coach Outlet in Loveland Colorado. They were only about $50.00 and they are incredibly soft, supple leather, but are also lined with cashmere for warmth. I can still fiddle with dials and buttons and not get cold fingers.
I used to have a wonderful pair that looked like mittens but the top half folded back & revealed fingertipless glove fingers underneath. They were so awesome for stuff like this!
I went skiing this Christmas and had a pair of silk gloves to wear under my thick puffy gloves. That was a great solution cos they silks kept my hands warm while I took photos, then I could put the thicker ones back on. They worked out about £7, I think.
@MikiChelle - my fingers get so cold, I don't think I could handle fingerless gloves! Although, I read that using glove liners with fingerless glove mittens was a good solution. @wormentude, I think that is the way I'm going - I've heard a lot of good things about doubling up. @Kaylaferguson, great suggestion - I think I may have found some running gloves that I'm going to pick up, along with some liners. @Craigdtull - classic. Unfortunately, it's just me and my dog, and I don't trust him to take my photos ;)
@linzelcakes Cycle shops have these thin neoprene looking gloves that are great, stole my friends pair for a day of outside shooting and no problems at all.
@craigdtull , well thats true, but then I would have to let him out of the locked chest inside the locked cupboard ,inside the locked bedroom!!!
And I forgot where the keys are... oh shame ,,
@linzelcakes Those flip tops don't work at -30C!! Even with light knits on my fingers were numb in 2 minutes!! Running gloves sound good, and will check the bike shops for the neoprene type.
@lynnb You're right - they definitely WOULDN'T work for that level of cold! Good luck - I'll bet the neoprene will work well, if you can find some thin enough to allow you to still use your hands fully!
