Oops! Getting distracted taking photos

January 31st, 2011
My daughter asked me to peel her an orange, I started to then though 'this could make a good photo'. 5 minutes later I feel a tug on my arm and an annoyed child saying 'Mummy! I want my orange!'
Oops!

Has anyone else found themselves more caught up with photos since starting this project?
January 31st, 2011
@emmar84 I am obsessed with this project. Don't want to take time out to do anything else :)
January 31st, 2011
OMG!! My house used to be so clean, and the laundry was always done. You should see it now. I get SO distracted, and some days my husband gets home from work at 4:00 in the afternoon, and I'm still in my pajamas working on a crazy shot. The more fun ideas I see on the site, the more fun ideas I want to try out. It's horrible and wonderful all at the same time!! At one point, my husband said "do you think you're getting a little goofy?", and he was serious. lol!!
January 31st, 2011
My kids are the same way, "Ugh Mommy with that camera", even the cats are getting annoyed! I wake up thinking of things to take pictures, take pictures, edit pictures, look at 365 constantly (even while on the treadmill from my iphone). It is my new addiction for sure. Housework... what housework! I'm so immersed in it and having such a good time. I haven't enjoyed something like this for a long time. Just glad hubby is understanding!

@emmar84 @ca_dev @petersonsheri

oh wow im with u all on this !!!the nursery run often takes a detour or we leave earlier so mummy(me) can try to get an interesting shot ...... when that fails its housework avoidance excuse to try something else ..... if its a busy day u can bet the older two kids are roped in to help after tea :) or one of them will get paid to wash up so i grab a quick 10 mins to try something out ! hehe ! ...... one day i even met my sn on his school lunch break to get a cool graffitti shot (we had a bakery lunch too i didnt starve him lol)

luckily for me all the lads love getting involved & my fella dont get in till 9pm so i have time to have a quick tidy up so hes none the wiser ;)
January 31st, 2011
My dreams are about here and taking photos.... lol and yes there are days I get completely distracted although with a 10 month old you can't get too distracted. lol.
January 31st, 2011
Although I don't have kids to get distracted from.. I do find myself spending far too much time on here than I should.. and far too much time thinking of photos I can take!! Everyone is so lovely, and it's so much fun to see other people's work and comment on it and tell them how good I think it is.. other things IRL seem far less exciting! XD
January 31st, 2011
I am glad to hear I am not the only one obsessed with this!
January 31st, 2011
and it isn't restricted to the ladies... I have so far to date not taken the camera to work, so I can have a 365-free moment. However yesterday was very frustrating at seeing all the great photo-opportunities miss me by!

maybe I should take the camera to work today? It won't hurt, just the one time, it'll be alright!!!
January 31st, 2011
oh yeah... all the time. Last night was a prime example. Bought some makerel for dinner and on way home thought they'd make for a good pic so soon as I'm home, out comes the camera and dinner can wait...
January 31st, 2011
i have NEVER become distracted taking photos, but tried to use this site as an excuse - does that count? (unfortunately everyone that knows me already knows my distraction level and didn't believe it was because of this site hehehe *turning head and looking at something shiny*)
January 31st, 2011
I was taking my son to the grocery stor & I saw a pond on the way there. I wanted to take a picture of, we were having fun walking thorugh the snow to the pond. Then I wanted to take a picture of these plastic ducks wearing coats. My son said can we go to the grocery store now? Then when we got there I saw an autobot symbol on someones car & it reminded me of how much we used to watch transformers & then there was this cool display case of soda boxes for NFL at the store. Umm so yeah. lol
January 31st, 2011
I am with all of you! My house was once clean and organized, but it hasn't been since I started this project. I also find myself thinking in pictures. When I am in a mood and I can't figure out how to say it, all of a sudden I think of a shot I could take that describes my mood. I love it! Happy to hear that there are others out there who can relate. Thanks for this discussion thread.
January 31st, 2011
Happens to me quite a bit, where the hubby will ask me to get him something and I'll say 'Sure' and half an hour later he's wondering what happened. Well, he knows by now, actually. :)
January 31st, 2011
Yep! Especially with my Weekly Cooking Challenge pics. I am learning to not make everyone wait until I can get a good shot of the final product. ;-)
January 31st, 2011
Oh yes. It practically hijacks my every thought nowadays. Whether I'm in class, out with friends, cooking, studying, an idea for a photo will pop into my head and more often than not, make me stop what I'm doing and snap a few shots.
January 31st, 2011
I've been asked by my daughters to please leave my camera behind on our family vacation...enough said.
January 31st, 2011
All the time! I hear "Will you hurry up David Bailey" quite a lot when we're out and about lol!
January 31st, 2011
@clarissajohal ~ that's funny!
January 31st, 2011
I'm very glad to hear I'm not the only one!
Although with a 2 and an almost 4 year old I can't rememebr when my house was last tidy, I can't really blame here for that.
I think it was worth it though, here's what I got from annoying my daughter:

(please feel free to add tips/criticism on the photo so I can improve future ones)

@flamez, I think I've seen the photo you mettioned. If it's the one of a boy in a hoodie crouched by a graffiti covered wall it's in my favourites!

@jason daniels, I tend to keep my small point and shoot in my bag at all times (I've managed to get some good sunsets and other unexpected photos that way) but I can't really get away with carrying my DSLR everywhere. I work for the NHS and on our site we have a needle exchange, I've had a thought for a picture I want to take with a syringe, needle and some food colouring, I think my managers will frown on it though :(

@chris chambers, something shiney? where?!

@karen mitchell *waves hello* it's a small world (I used to be emma46 on LLL)
January 31st, 2011
@emmar84 ~ awww wow really ? yup thats the one :) i had this image in my head and needed a son to act it out , luckily for me he left his dinner money at home that morning so i met him for lunch and got my pic :)
January 31st, 2011
@flamez a win:win situation then! I really do love every bit of the photo, they way your son is hunched up, almost trying to hide himself and the way the colours fade away from him, It seems really poignant.
January 31st, 2011
Hahaha! I hear yah! I thought I was the only one. I stay up late at night just trying to figure out which photo to post. I don't have kids but my honey also thinks I'm a goofy with my new obsession. Like Sarah ( @coolgirlsar ), I dream about taking photos too. Most esp when I learned a different trick or new tips. It is so addicting.....you want to do it all day. More so when you get awesome results. :D
January 31st, 2011
I think I'm more into this site now that facebook. LOL
January 31st, 2011
@petersonsheri Hahaha, I'm the same way! I don't even remember what I did in my spare time before this site...
January 31st, 2011
@emmar84 ~ thankyou :) im glad u like :) when i did it i had the picture in my head colours everything and to be honest it was almost what i had pictured , got a few more like that in mind :)

@carrieoakey ~ im the same fb is just not as interesting as it used to be ! Me and sarah ( @coolgirlsar ) were talking about nightime and ideas earlier today , i was saying i had an idea when i was in bed last night to do today and when i woke up id blooming forgotten what it was :( and sarah was saying about dreaming things ! mad how it takes over half your life without even realising !
January 31st, 2011
@flamez: Hahaha! We are hilarious! I had to force my honey to pose for me so I can try out this new thing I learned. It took a lot of coxing until he finally gave in. I even dreamed about it the night before. LOL. You are right, majority of my time is thinking of photos I can take. And then when I'm online, I love looking at everyone's photos. And getting ideas from them. :)
January 31st, 2011
@flamez, @carrieoakley, I use this more than facebook too now, I think my husband is getting fed up with all the photos he "has to see" on here.

I think my problem is if I plan out photos they never turn out how I want, most of the ones I like best are the spur of the moment ones.
January 31st, 2011
@emmar84 OMG Hello :) Although to be fair it was Rachiebaby who did the 365 last year and inspired me! I love small world syndrome!
January 31st, 2011
@minxymissk Rachiebaby inspired me too, I followed her project on facebook last year.
January 31st, 2011
@emmar84 Same here, she has inspired a few of us old Lushies, Tattoochris, Elsz and Katherine Palmer (can't think of her forum name..) are doing it too :)
January 31st, 2011
@minxymissk I know Elsz was, I am already following her, I wonder if Rachel knows she's inspired so many!
January 31st, 2011
I'd answer, but I have to go take a photo now...
January 31st, 2011
@emmar84 I think she does, her status today is about how so many of us have made it to the month mark :)
January 31st, 2011
I am addicted to 365, I feel like a Human Camera, When Im out I see things and think "that would make a good Photo" I need a bit more confidence to take more Photos when out, the Camera is always with Me but I often don't take the Photo incase someone is watching but then I live to regret it once I get home.

As a busy Mum of 4 with alot of other things going on I don't feel as though I experiment with Photos as much as I would like and I seem to just pick an object any random object, Yesterday it was some Pencils the day before a Tape Measure and today a Corkscrew and take a Photo of it, Im really enjoying 365 though, I neglected Photography after studying it at College so its nice to have a reason to get back into it.
January 31st, 2011
@emmar84 ~ poor old facebook so neglected hehe ! i only really use it to keep up with @lisahutchinson @coolgirlsar & kirsty (cant think what her tag name is sorry kirsty) 's photos that dont go on here & to chat to them directly lol !! everyone else on my fb list has been truely neglected oppsies !!

@carrieoakey ~ im the same with my lot sometimes bribery gets them to do what i ask lol the youngest is easiest he works for chocolate :)

@emmar84 ~ hehe ! my fella gets so bored with OMG look at this or WOW thats mine on popular :O lol poor man ....... only 11 months to go hehe !
February 1st, 2011
I've been fully drenched by the Mediterranean.
February 1st, 2011
Oh, don't worry. My mother is addicted to photography and the only collateral effect of been raised in the middle of cameras is the fact that with 12 I was already taking experimental shoots.
lol
February 1st, 2011
I find my husband tapping me on my shoulder quite often. I lose track of time when taking pictures.
February 1st, 2011
@emmar84 and @flamez: i spend more time here now than fb. We get more creative. I get too nosy in fb. lol.

@flamez: i think ice cream will work better with mine. :p
February 1st, 2011
Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if we were all featured on some 365 OCD reality show. Facebook, my blog and everyday duties have fallen to the wayside on more than one occassion (daily). My family thinks I've lost my mind but, come to think of it we've already done a lot of fun things trying to get good shots (especially with the themes) so it's a much healthier obsession I think!
February 1st, 2011
@emmar84 That is SO funny. I have been looking at life with a different eye since I started this project. The photo I posted of the icicle today, in the past, I would have walked right past it. It's uniqueness caught my eye, I ran into the house for the camera, and started shooting for about 20 minutes (different things). My husband, who loves photography as well, totally understood, but we were almost late to our appointment. My new camera broke today (got it for Christmas) so I will have to use his...which is 1000 times better than mine...darn! :-)
February 1st, 2011
My 365 moment: Driving down a freeway at night, trying to balance the camera and take a picture of the roadway and the faint tail lights. I was so focused on the red lights in front of me...until I saw the red FLASHING lights behind me! Fortunately, the officer was nice enough to let me off with a warning. I think he thought I was using a cell phone, but somehow staring at an LCD screen of a camera was ok. Maybe he's a 365'er ;-)
February 1st, 2011
@emsabh Yeah, I am wondering whether taking pictures while driving is against the law, was doing that yesterday to take my elephant bokeh pictures. Guess it's not the wisest thing to do... unless you're going only 10 miles an hour or so and there's nobody else on the road, which is what I was doing, LOL. Maybe they could have stopped me for driving too slowly? ;-)
February 1st, 2011
HVR
Yup... I was in tears yesterday about something, and I looked into the mirror that was on a windowsill to wipe my face - and stopped. I thought - wow, the way the liquid in my eyes is pooling looks cool with the lighting here...

Good Grief.

I stopped crying. Couldn't have been that bad if I could be distracted so easily.
February 1st, 2011
I just hate the way good shots I haven't taken haunt me for days, weeks, months, etc. My husband now pleads with me to leave the camera behind when we go out. But I'm near the end of 365 - fortunately I still have my other album - (tee hee!)
February 1st, 2011
It is good to know that I am not the only one who has gotten sucked into the 365 OCD frenzy. I think my husband is jealous of all the time I spend on here. Just last night he asked what I was doing then said, "oh, pictures again." with a disgusted tone in his voice. Hey, it's HIS fault...he gave me my camera for Christmas a couple of years ago. I wonder if he regrets it now? I'm eternally grateful to him...I HOOKED!
February 1st, 2011
Well, I can only assume my "sickness" is getting worse, tonight we got in from doign the food shopping after work, put the children to bed and I then made my husband wait for his tea until I had taken a photo idea which had been in my head all day, edited it and put it on here.
We've just finished tea now. How much worse is this going to get?!
February 2nd, 2011
Im taking my pics on my phone, so I always have it with me... When i first started a month ago I found myself taking 1 or 2 pics and uploading what I had.... Now I'm being fussy and taking 10-20 pics of the same thing, diff angles etc then choosing the best to upload....

I also spend prob 30mins minimum at work browsing all the other pics and discussions...
