I was thinking a lot lately about insuring my camera. I love my new canon 60D but I am also now thinking with all the travelling I do, I could not afford to shell out another €1,500 euro for a complete new setup if I have bad luck and it gets stolen.
I am planning on doing a lot of travelling in some poor European countries this coming spring, and this doesn’t mean I am really worried about theft but I think I want to have some insurance for that piece of mind.
I know sometimes you can get theft protection with general travel insurance, but I already have a travel medical insurance policy, and often travel policies exclude expensive electronics. I appreciate your input if you have any other tips for companies/policies that would be of interest to me.
Dont know of a good one, but @vikdaddy dont go to Camerasure (towergate) insurance! I had insurance with them @ £100 a month for about 10 years. I made one big claim when I dropped everything out of my rucksack and although they did pay for fixing/replacements, they upped my premium by 50%. I would've been better off to just put the money away instead of paying the robbing gits. Left them immediately after..
Can you not put it on house contents insurance?
in the usa adding an item to one's homeowner's or renter's insurance is called a rider so i have a rider for my camera which includes accidental damage... the camera falls over the cliff... the cost of the insurance was quite inexpensive.
Here in the use you can include the value in your contents, but the settlement at the time of loss may or may not be what it is worth plus it is subject to the deductible applicable for contents. You can "schedule" by endorsement which will waive the deductible plus the value is specifically stated. Scheduled items are usually covered worldwide, contents are not necessarily.
