I find that too, especially for photos that are shot with wide angle lenses. And for my pics much of the details in the photos are lost in small images.

@flamez As for photos like this can of Coke in the water, a bllown up image will add the impact or the shock you want.... I think!

It's not just the size, sometimes the black background adds something extra too.

I have two examples of this exact thing! Sometimes I think the details just don't hit home in the smaller versions.

I think most shots look better large and I often press the magnifying glass when browsing other people's shots.

This one of mine has a lot of detail which gets sort of lost in the smaller version.

You can't really see all the color and detail in this nightscape photo until you zoom in on it.

the textures stand out so much more when you look at it bigger, in most all cases.
but there are some more than others that it really gives a better effect.

I do lots of Macros as You know, Mainly because I usually do My Photos late at night when finally sitting down and I grab some random object and Photograph it, I've noticed they always look better larger maybe because the detail is shown more larger ?

For example.... This Photo which isnt great I know and My Son says it looks like a Mouse LOL

It looks better larger because the stitching shows up more when larger.

oh my goodness! This happens to me a lot! Is it that there are small details that get lost when the photo is resized smaller?

My recent ice pic is a definite example - much more specific detail when you go large -

But that being posted when I "view large" I only get half the pic & scroll down doesn't work. Since this is mine though I know l large brings out more of the drops.

I find it's usually the shots with a lot of details and/or panoramic ones that are far better when viewed large.
I did these and they don't look alright if you don't look them in large view:
