This is probably a question to which there is no correct answer. This week I decided to enter the collage challenge. I followed a couple of Youtube videos and learned how to compose a basic collage using Photoshop. These are on the mfpiac-115 challenge.
An interesting set of images are important. The shape and dimensions of each image are critical too as far as each one fitting into the specified space on the collage. Most aspects of photography are very subjective; what is/are the final or necessary ingredient(s) necessary to make a mediocre collage into a really good one?
A really interesting question…. I expect it’s quite subjective…. For me, the images need to hang together - not just in terms of theme and subject, but in terms of colour, lighting and mood. And optimally - they need to hang together to tell a story. I always struggle with collage challenges because of this…. I’m never happy with the ones I put together and usually give up. It’s one of those things where I look at others entries into the challenge where folks have put together something marvellous but I can’t seem to replicate the technique.
@30pics4jackiesdiamond those are beautiful images!!!! yes - i'm guessing these were all taken on the same day in the same location... the theme is clear, and the light and colour tones are consistent... i'd probably have played with sizing to eliminate most of the background, but that's just me 😁
@northy Thank you! I did have them all the same way up but went with angled and then added the yellow background. All on same day except the church bottom right! I'm going to have a go at a BnW collage later see how that works.............
I think this is a good example of collage. I like the varied angles for these bright cheerful image because I think it looks more whimsical and I think that is good for a cheerful, happy collage.
