Does anyone use a cell phone camera?

Photography is a huge hobby of mine, and I love using my film SLR and developing in the darkroom. I'm currently living in SF (for the past 3 years) and am relocating to So. Cal in a few months so the idea of a 365 project popped into my head to chronicle this big (yet again) transition in my life. I feel like I just took everyday things around here for granted so I'd like to chronicle them.

Anyway, since I'm a student always lugging around a computer and books I don't really have room for an SLR or my point and shoot at all times so I've decided I'm going to try out the cell phone cam. I was wondering if anyone else regularly takes photos with one because I'd be interested in seeing how you utilize such a simple camera in your shots.

I use the camera on my phone quite a lot, as it's always in my pocket. It's not too bad considering. Recently I've probably taken more than half my pics on it, as I've been out and about a lot, and not always got my point an shoot on me. :o)

I would wholeheartedly recommend checking out this flickr set:

Not often ... usually in emergencies, as when I do not happen to have my regular camera handy.

Cases in point: It was necessary for me to utilize the craptastickness of my cell phone camera for my recent 123 Challenge on my April 6th, 7th and 8th entries. It comes in handy in a pinch ... and some of the results are interesting to boot. Take a gander and let me know your thoughts - good, bad or indifferent.

I don't post photos from my cell phone often but I have an iPhone and love love love the Hipstamatic app. This photo was taken with it in my backyard:

I don't even use a cell phone... ...never mind...

i pretty much only use my iphones camera =) its one of the best phone camera on the market because of its touch focus =D

I break out my cell phone camera whenever I am out without my DSLR. Most of the time it's so I avoid missing a day.
April 12th, 2010
I use it as a back up, but I prefer to use my dslr.
April 13th, 2010
i prefer my dslr but laziness/my shoulder means most of my pictures are shot with my phone [and it's obvious]. also for me this project was supposed to be about forcing myself out of my creative rut, but it seems to have taken on more of a photo diary sort of thing so i'm not too worried about the quality. with the right lighting though my phone takes a pretty clear picture though. :)

Yeah, sometimes... If, for whatever reason, I can't use my normal camera...

You can if you can email it (Which I'm pretty sure you can)
Your upload-by-email address is on your "Upload" page.

I took cell phone photos last night since I was too shy to whip out the big guns. (I was at a restaurant, and they had a set of jumper cables hanging on the wall above their chest freezer. I don't think it was a decoration. Also there was peanut butter on my hamburger. How could I pass up a photo or two?)

yeah occasionally I use my mobile (not cell phone in the UK ha ha) and pics aren't to bad. It's a 5mp so scenery is good, but people capture isn't great

Occasionally I use a Sony Ericsson C905a. It actually has a Sony Cyber-Shot 8.1 MP built into it with red-eye, zoom, scene selection, etc. It's wonderful!!! However, for most of my shots now I am using a Sony Cyber-Shot H55 with 10X optical and 14.1 MP.
April 14th, 2010
All my shots are taken on a 2-megapixel iPhone 3G.
April 14th, 2010
I used to love taking photos on my old Sony Ericsson mobile as the camera was awesome. But my Nokia just doesn't compare..It's alright in emergencies though.

Thing is, I doubt anybody's going to go "eurghh you're not using an SLR" If you're documenting your life it's going to be the stories that will make your project, not how sharp your images turn out. I wouldn't worry. :)

I use my iPhone camera fairly often, when I just don't want to carry my Olympus (or just plain forget it). I've been impressed with some of the pictures I've managed with it.

Your upload-by-email address is on your "Upload" page.

I upload using the email option periodically and it works well. The next time you get on 365 you will have a message that there are photos ready to organise.

I use my phone for pics daily. I have a Samsung rant and have found it has a better quality than my 8.0 digital camera. And you can upload your pics right from your phone via email. Although, I usually use picnik before uploading.

I can't upload directly to the site from my iPhone since it doesn't handle flash.

Can you edit any of the information or post the pic when you upload from e-mail?
April 14th, 2010
I think all but one of my pictures that I have taken have been on my iPhone (stupid broken camera). I take them and then edit them on my computer. I find that the color on cell phone pics don't come out nearly as well as on a camera. Other than that, the pictures come out pretty well. I'm a student too, and it's definitely a plus if you don't have to carry around one more thing.

Emailed photos do not go directly into your photo stream. You add/edit info the next time you log into the site. You get a notification saying "You have photos waiting to be organised" or somesuch.

So if the organisation bit does not use Flash, you could do it from Safari on your iPhone.

Actually, on the Upload page (just below your email-upload address) there is a link to a basic uploader, which is your standard "Browse" and "Upload" page. I believe it is Flash-free.

I'm a Cannon girl but a few of my pics are from my "Droid" phone as I was sick a few days. It has a good camera as far as phones go but the quality of a REALLY good camera makes a huge difference.

I use my Blackberry camera constantly. In fact every photo I've uploaded so far, and intend to upload, are from it. The quality is pretty good I think.
April 15th, 2010
I use my cell camera more than I actually want to, but it's just so quick and handy and with me all the time. I upload to Facebook via my cell quite often.
April 15th, 2010
I use my blackberry camera a lot. The quality isn't perfect but it's decent. I constantly twitpic and I've used a few shots with my blackberry for my 365. I'd prefer not to, just because I love having more quality images, but it works in a pinch when you see something you just have to snap and don't have your normal camera on your person.
April 15th, 2010
ABSOLUTELY!
I use what ever camera I have with me at the moment weather it be film slr, dslr, or a cell phone. My favorite photographer Chase Jarvis goes by the philosophy that the best camera in the world is the one that is with you. He's kinda built an "underground" movement of iPhone photography. You can see it at http://www.thebestcamera.com

I think it's so amazing to see what other people have created using a cell phone camera. Here's a self-portrait that I took using my cell phone (Samsung Instinct) http://365project.org/nwphoto/365/2010-04-14
April 15th, 2010
I've only used my cell phone once to submit an image here. It was during the Alphabet Challenge when I took a shot of Lake Tahoe with my cell phone (an HTC Touch Pro 2)... it came out so well, i decided to use it for the challenge! :)

That pic can be found here: http://365project.org/alexm555/365/2010-03-13

All I use is the cam on my blacknberry :) I like it too :p
April 15th, 2010
almost all of my pictures are from my cell phone! I'm a student, too, and I don't lug my SLR around with me all the time, or even my p&s! I have an LG xenon which has a pretty good camera, I'm finding out!
April 15th, 2010
I love the Hipstamatic app for iPhone and sometimes I don´t have time or energy to use my big camera, so I post a lot of iphone pictures!
April 15th, 2010
I just downloaded the Hipstamatic app for my iphone, playing around with it now.

When I use my iphone, I take a picture, email it to my 365 email that they provided, wait awhile and then open 365 in Safari and Edit title and whatnot and post.(it doesn't require flash when you do it that way) It's awesome when you are in a hurry. I also look through everyones pictures and comment when I'm waiting somewhere or just lying in bed at night.
April 15th, 2010
I've got a Sony Ericsson Satio cellphone with a 12 megapixel camera (& flash). It does a panoramic photo that is 3 photos wide. I use it lots. It is always with me.
April 16th, 2010
i shoot with my blackberry curve 8900 - and email it directly.
April 16th, 2010
Since my camera broke, I've been using my phone.
April 17th, 2010
I do use my IPhone sometimes. It takes pretty decent photos, and you don't always have that camera with you or ready when a picture opp presents itself!
April 17th, 2010
Thus far, all my shots have been taken with my Blackberry. I too have an SLR that I LOVE, but it is a bit, er, "luggy". With all the setting stuffs you can change on all the different camera phones, they seem to work out really well. I happen to love mine to catch those spur of the moment "perfect" shots!
April 17th, 2010
I use my iPhone camera apps quite frequently on here :) I prefer to use my Rebel, but sometimes you just need to use your phone!
April 18th, 2010
All the photos on my photo set here are taken with my iPhone camera.
April 18th, 2010
I use my iphone camera 90% of the time because it's always with me, and finding my camera for a fantastic sunset or picture of someone can take too long!
April 18th, 2010
I'm also a 100% iPhone user - I love the challenge!

I think it makes you focus more on the composition of the image becuase you have so little control over the usual technical components.
April 18th, 2010
I use my iPhone 3GS for all my photos - until I can get a camera. I enjoy trying different apps, and I don't alter or edit my photos. What you see is what you get.
April 18th, 2010
I use my iphone, it's much easier for me to capture things with - rather than carrying my SLR everywhere!
April 19th, 2010
all my 365 photos are done with my iphone
April 19th, 2010
Yes! All my pictures that are posted on here are taken by my iPhone camera and the photo apps. I use on there. I love it.
April 19th, 2010
Me too!. I use my iPhone everyday for the project.
April 19th, 2010
My digital camera broke so I use my mobile phone.

Mobile photography is taking off! I have entered some of my phone photos into a competition to win £100 iTunes and get my photos displayed in a London Gallery! - http://createhive.org/
