So I've been thinking about this lately... A lot of times people tend to name their cars, because they love them like a spouse.. Well I'm pretty confident in assuming that a lot of us feel the same way about our cameras. So my question is..
Have you given a name to your camera?
If so, what is it?
Do they have to be gender specific? (like how cars are with girls names)
the name of my canon450d was "RECCA" .... got this name from the animated series
"FLAME OF RECCA" ....
My Nikon D90 is aptly named Alice :) this was chosen because like Alice in Wonderland Alice is surrounded by a world of imagination and creativity as well as magical things and finally because Alice in the story likes to explore the unknown :)
yes, yes i did think it through :) it was a grueling process haha.
Its female because it would be awkward to say i went on a nice long walk in the sunset with BOB or BILLY. you know what i mean :D
@marshy15 very creative.... Alice is a nice name!!! @mikhasus love those iphone random shots .... @triptych_angel will purchase a new canon body camera... im still thinking what to name him/her ......
@janmaki mac is a nice name , short for macro ... thats good .... @liipgloss i had an olympus digi cam before, but did not name it ... @indiannie_jones AWWWW!!!! poor gadgets .... Ignacio needs CPR i think... by the way i love those names!!!! very mexican?
Hmmm, I usually end up tripping over my words when I'm grabbing for my camera trying to get "that perfect shot that will pass forever in the next few seconds."
So, because of that, it ends up being called, "my...snappy thingy...must...get...where did I put?? ...sputter, sputter, sputter..." Does that count as a name?
I name lots of things, I guess because I setup computers at work and assign the addresses, I've gotten in the habit of naming lots of things. My camera's name is Fred. I can't really say why, just seems to fit, like an old shoe, I'm comfortable with my camera. My car's name is Betty, my shuffle I run with is Speedy, and my iPhone is Shirley. The iPod Touch I had before my phone is Can't Touch This, because I didn't want my kids messing with it at the time. My laptop I call starfish, mainly because all the computers we have in the house are named after fish, like wahoo, marlin, bluefin etc. I named all the servers we have at work after vodkas, and the switches in our network closet after the little rascals. Good thread, I like naming things!
I refer to my Holga as Holga, and my Lubitel as Boris. LOL. That's about all... my cameras are tools for me, not quite the attachment I have towards them like my cars, which do have names.
I haven't named it yet but I regularly call it POS when it fails to focus fast enough and/or when I screw things up and it doesn't fix it for me....I find it helpful to blame my shortcomings on the equipment, somehow it makes me feel better! :)
My Canon T2i is Beau (short for Beauregard), the lenses don't have names, but since I'm about to purchase my 3rd I probably should rectify that. My car is Baby Girl and I've already picked out the next one (a Dodge Charger) whose name will be Gemma. My laptop is Lazarus because we've brought it back to life more times than I care to count. Lazarus is about to finally retire and I'll have to come up with a name for his replacement. Hmmm, my gear and tech stuff are male but my cars are female...
hmmm, James Cameran?... no
Nik Cannon? works on a few levels, but definitely not.
Cameran Diaz?? maybe.
I do not have a name for mine, sometimes I throw a nickname on it in reference such as "hammer", "axe" or "shooter" (sometimes pronounced sheeooter here in the northern wooded farm country)
@gavincci my favorite quote on the subject is from Paula Vogel's play "How I Learned to Drive":
It doesn't have to be a "she"--but when you close your eyes and think of someone who responds to your touch--someone who performs just for you and gives you what you ask for--I guess I always see a "she." You can call her what you like.
so I guess that could apply to cameras as equally as cars. but my camera is unnamed; it doesn't do those things for me!
my last camera had a name...only because my little brother named it. it's name was lil digi (he called my film camera "lil digi's mom") but haven't named the one i currently have.
My camera is a boy and his name is Blue. Friends have also purchased cameras the same as mine and they are girl cameras. One is called Noir, not sure about the other. A lady I follow has a pink camera and we named her Blush.
Never thought of giving a name to it, it's generally referred to as my engagement ring though.
Since I'm not a big jewelry person I asked for a DSLR instead of a diamond (wouldn't have gotten a blood diamond anyway)
Shooter Jennings, lol, no seriously I don't have a name for my camera but if I did that would be a good one. I like that Waylon Jennings named his kid Shooter.
Gene... it's short for "Memory Machine" but when my youngest tried to repeat it, it came out "memory gene" which stuck. I had originally spelled it as "Jean" but my husband pointed that, for reasons obvious to his sometimes childish mind, that it should be a boy... roflmho. Never a dull moment around this place... lol.
I have gotten such a chuckle reading all the comments!
When I recently purchased my new camera I considered naming it, but decided not to since the only thing I have ever named are the semi's I drive. When I'm heading out to take photos, though, I do say that my "new best friend" and I are heading out.
Anybody know if Hipstamatic app is compatible with iPod Touch 4th Gen? I don't have an iPhone, but I was considering buying an iPod Touch and I'd love to own this app! =)

So, because of that, it ends up being called, "my...snappy thingy...must...get...where did I put?? ...sputter, sputter, sputter..." Does that count as a name?
LOL,
The Nikon is Niki, the Olympus is Oly
Niki and Oly :)))))
My 70-210 lens is called big peeper, because it's funny and it's rather oversized for what it is (it's rather old)
@killerjackalope you owe me a go with big peeper :3
Hispanic names are exotic :D and I enjoy rolling my Rs! @gavincci

@gavincci No, wasn't thinking of her, but I love that it's a muppet's name!
