Found Poems - book spines

April 14th, 2011
I loved this idea as a way to create found poetry - rearranging your bookshelf! This was my first effort, after playing around with the children's books in my classroom.

The whales,
Black and white,
Learning to swim in Swaziland
To see the moon
Underneath
Many waters.

This web site was the original inspiration : http://100scopenotes.com/2011/04/01/2011-book-spine-poem-gallery/ . I would love to see your take!

Oh cheers to you Katie! When I saw April is National Poetry Month I had been trying to come up with an idea of a way to celebrate it!! Great find and great pic!! I'll have to put my books to work and come up with my take on it:-)

Totally going to do this!

with the thousands of books I have I'm sure I can figure this out. I will have a look and see.

Ok, here you go. I can't put it into a poem form because it is funnier and makes more sense in a single sentence.

If they only knew battle ready heroes make love the Bruce Campbell way just after sunset.

I am also going to have to try this , Going to get my daughter to make the book spine poem and I will that the photo a real team work project Thanks

@archaeofrog I can't wait to give this a try! Thanks for the idea.
@chillbill Ha ha! That's awesome!

@lr86365 Thank you. I am going to try to get more on here as I go through my books. This was just a spur of the moment thing as these were the first ones I came to that made sense. I tried to fit Under The Dome in there but it was wrote the wrong way on the spine so it wouldn't work unless I had turned the book long ways.

So great! And bill's is fantastic, too! I looked at my bookshelf, and they all seemed really weird together, but will definitely give this a try. Thanks for sharing!

Haha I had a similar shot about two months ago. When rearranging my books, a couple of titles seemed to be forming a senseless sentence lol

What a wonderful idea! I almost only have Dutch books, so i think that will only be funny for me and my fellow dutchies...

Here's what I came up with:

Northern Lights,
The Twilight Watch.
Spirit of Wonder,
Of Time and Stars.
Red Seas Under Red Skies,
Black Juice.
Requiem for a Dream.

Thanks for all your comments! @chillbill @slmatntwi @leahmholmes Love them, thanks for sharing!

I couldn't help making another today, but this one is more of a self-portrait statement than humor.

How to be an explorer of the world:
Little house in Brookfield.
Unofficial guide to life at Harvard,
Ghosts of Vesuvius,
Wisconsin's weather and climate.
The American Southwest,
New Zealand,
Teach like a champion.
Complete National Parks,
Digital landscape photography,
Live from Jordan.
America.

I have other ones but when I actually look at them they just don't make sense. I may post them on here tomorrow with what I got to see if you all like them.

Here's my attempt:

The witness,
Silenced,
In harm's way,
Deep in the heart of trouble,
Flabbergasted;
Return of the guardian king,
Sworn to protect
Breaking dawn
Forevermore.
