Paris...anyone familiar with SFBJ dolls?

April 17th, 2011
I found this porcelain doll in my closet (yes, she has been there for almost twenty years because porcelain dolls sort of scare me a little), and I was trying to figure out what to do with her. When I started looking her over, I noticed that she had the marking SFBJ 252 Paris 11 on the back of her head. I spent almost all day yesterday on Google trying to figure out if she was actually made by this company or not. The main reason I question it is because her eyes are brown, and all of the dolls I found online have blue eyes. She needs to be "strung" back together, and one of her fingers is broken (although I have it--creepy again!).

So, I'm wondering if any of my 365 friends out there are familiar with these dolls?

P.S. I'm pretty sure her hair is human. It feels exactly like mine. Yeah. That's kind of creepy too. lol!

Yeah, that is kinda creepy. I've never liked dolls; gimme a platinum blonde Barbie and a pink Corvette and I'm happy!

+ I realize I'm of no help whatsoever but I wanted to share that.

I'm afraid your doll was made by a home hobbyist. Although she is cute, she have very little to no value.

Amy
I believe Paul is correct in his finding... and if you search a bit more, I'm inclined to believe that you have Bluette's little sister, Benjamine who was only on the market for a short time back in 1926.

ETA ~ one sold at a Christie's auction for $3,000USD ~ the hair is done differently but the face is the same. Here is the link - http://www.christies.com/LotFinder/lot_details.aspx?intObjectID=1866714

@petersonsheri Shreri, Its worth having your doll valued as some of the SFJB pieces are highly collectable. Some are even museum pieces, so it would be good to do some research on her. The very early models had the initials and numbering written on their heads, and yours looks like a later model as Its part of the molding. The prices of these dolls vary considerably.. It's possible it could be Benjamine, But she also looks like Pouty. I would recommend doing some homework on her.

I'm sorry to say Paul and Amy but the doll she has was homemade and once again has no value other than that to the maker. I would donate her to a senior center and maybe they can take the project of dressing her and then displaying her at the center. That would be a very nice thing to do.

I put the photos of her on an ebay discussion board under the "doll" heading, and was also told that she had no value. It was kind of fun to think for a little bit that she might be one of those amazing hidden surprises!! She does need to be restrung, and there is a woman in her 70s that has worked with dolls her entire life, so I'm going to take the doll to her. I'm sure that she'll know about the dolls too.

I so appreciate all of your input. I have searched SO MANY hours on this!! Ugh!! She's beautiful, but honestly, the woman who gave her to me isn't a friend anymore, and I really don't want the memory of her, so whether she is worth $5.00 or $50.00, I will probably fix her up and find her a new home. :)

Thank you my friends!!!

@gavincci Your dolls are very beautiful, as are the photos of them. When I was researching the doll that I have, the authentic versions that I saw had either wooden or cloth bodies with porcelain BJD limbs. I couldn't imagine the work that went in to making them without breaking the pieces while they were being made. Incredible!!
