Selective Colouring ? Colour Splash ?

April 17th, 2011
Not sure which is the Technical Term but I am taking Photos of a Wedding in July and the Bride to Be has said She would like a selection of Black and White, Colour and Selective Colouring ? Colour Splash ? Photos, I only have Photoshop Elements 6 which is old now on my Laptop, I tend to use Picnik and now Be Funky as recommended by a Friend but can't find how to do it in either of those 2 so does anyone know if there are any sites where I can do it quickly and easily as I have had a few plays on Photoshop but never managed them very sucessfully.

hey, i struggled with this for a while... then worked out (what i think is) the easiest way... Using photoshop... i'm not 100% sure how much of this you can do in elements but i'd assume you could...
i found an action that i liked (paint the moons, make it snappy b&w action) ran the action on the image which puts it in a layer file, then i add as mask and reveal the park i want in colour using the paint brush.
fiddly but its the best results i've found, and (as you can see in my album LOL) im slightly addicted to it now ;) hth!

If you like picnik...turn a colour photo to b&w, then 'erase' the b&w to see the colour underneath

Colour Splash is an i phone app I use sometimes. Works brilliantly but not sure if/how you could use it unless the pics were taken on an I phone?

I use picnik, I turn the color photo to black and white, then drag the cursor across what you want to be colored... There will be a little box where you can choose either original or effect; that's how you get the color back.

In picnik (at least the website) once you turn a photo black and white you will the see paint brush icon. It should already be activated, so if you were to just click over the area that you wanted to be re colored, it should work. I have tried to use the selective color on picnik a few times but don't care for it due to not knowing how to erase. I use Gimp, which is a free download program, but its a little more time consuming.

@mej2011 You can choose to paint the effect back over if you accidentally colored something you didn't want colored... you can go back and forth between original and effect. (Hope this makes sense...)

@sarabeth_photo - I had to actually log onto the website and physically do this to see if I was understanding you correctly, but this does in fact make sense! Thanks!

@shutterbugger @sarabeth_photo @mej2011 wow, thanks for that - I've been playing around on picnik for a couple of months, and hadn't twigged what the paintbrush thingie was for - but now I know, thanks to your advice! I've just had a go, and I think I might be posting a few colour popping photos in the near future!! :o)
