How did you find 365project.org?

April 24th, 2010
Summary - via Karen Hurd (hwy61)

First, thanks for replying to my post. I have enjoyed reading all your replies! Since there are so many replies here now, I thought I’d try to summarize. (as of 4/27/2010 -8 pm Richmond, Va time) and then I suggest we close this thread.

1 - How you found the project ran the gamut with friends/family and FaceBook leading the way, but magazine articles, Twitter, blogs, other websites, and Google searches also were responsible for some of you getting here.

I'd like to note one website that I’d never heard of but that Nicole James told me was how she found 365. I just spent a little time there and it’s a pretty cool site. If you’re looking for something to help you set goals, try this. http://www.43things.com/

2 - Why did you decide to join the 365 Project?
• to document a year in my life
• to learn about/or improve my photography
• to make myself pay more attention
• to give me something creative to do
• to get ideas of things to photograph from other people
• to see what kinds of photos others post
• to have something to focus on each day
• to get through some rough times
• to write about my thoughts
• to help bring something more positive into my days
• to get myself back into photography

3 - Why do you like this project? – Though I didn’t ask this question, many of you answered it.
• Not sure what I love more, the photos or the great people behind them
• Like seeing the world through a camera lens
• What I love the most about Project 365, apart from the daily photos, is the community of wonderful and amazing people I have found on here!
• I was instantly hooked!
• This site's much more than just somewhere to upload photos. I've been really enjoying that part, but the bit that's kept me going is the sense of community.

4 - Will you do it again for another year? – The jury seems to be out on this as most people responding still have many months to think about that.

5 - Will you do something with all your photos at the end of the year? – Again, it’s a wait and see feeling with a few mentioning the possibility of compiling a book/scrapbook, making a video, choosing 1 photo from each month and creating a calendar, just looking back at all my photos, to… who knows?

Well, no matter how you got here or why you joined, I’m glad you’re here. I am enjoying your photos and your friendship.

My Original Post:

The 365 project is soooo much more than just uploading a photo a day for a year, yet I didn't have a clue how wonderful it was when I signed up. Did you?

About 18 months ago Twitter was the new star on my block. I was (and still am) using it as, what is known in the educational world, as my "PLN- personal learning network." I am a technology resource teacher (read that - addicted to anything that involves technology.) Near the end of December, some of my ed tech buddies on Twitter started "tweeting" about the 365 project...asking who was going to join or re-up.

Well, I had never heard of this project, but one guy I follow on Twitter took his 365 photos and made a Vimeo video (cool app-check it out) out of them. His daughter happens to be an aspiring folk singer, so he used his daughter's music for the video. It was 25 minutes long and I watched the entire video...by the end of it I was hooked and signed on...so my question is...what/who got you started?

Also, are you planning to save your 365 project in some special way once the year comes to an end? A book? A video (my plan.) Something else?

I think I found this as a photog I know referred me to a 365 project. I believe it was a dot com, and I typed in dot org. And the rest, is "Just Chris".

My 365 is in my mind. With the year I'm having, I will likely move on. Don't want to remember most of it.Too many memories I would like to have erased from my mind. With the exception of the wonderful folks here (like yourself, naturally), everything else is just for learning, or for fun to me at this point. And I enjoy that a lot!

My friend Amber found it....... So glad she did :-)
April 25th, 2010
I found it as a suggestion from the Digital Photography School page.

At the end of this year my wife is planning to put together a scrapbook.
April 25th, 2010
A friend on Facebook had put it on their status that they were going to do the 365 project. I looked up the groups that are on FB and found the one that referred to this site and signed up. Since then, have had a few friends join!
At the end of this year, I haven't fully decided how I want to document the year. I'm using this as a daily photo journal of my family's lives, so some kind of physical keepsake will be called for. I have printed out my January photos using HotPrints' once-a-month free photobook. Not sure yet if that's what I'll do for the whole year. Might do a scrapbook instead.
April 25th, 2010
My sister, Sheri ( http://365project.org/birdieperson/365) told me about it, and I spontaneously joined. At this point I don't know what I'll do with my photos at the end of the year.
April 25th, 2010
A good friend and colleague told me about it. Oh wait, that was you!
April 25th, 2010
My friend from work (Sue) mentioned it to me as I was "looking for something fun to do", and little did i know!! this is so much more than just "something fun", it becomes a part of my daily life and a fun, loving community! Thanks Sue! :) I haven't decided what to do after the year ends, i guess i have another 7 or 8 months to think about it. but i would love to put together a book of all the photos or the favorites of mine in the year.

Wu
Actually someone I knew on dA was starting a 365 blog and then he started a group on livejournal...
He referenced this site as a place to start storing photos.

Funny because I haven't seen him upload yet lol

I love this site :D
April 25th, 2010
I just started yesterday! I found it because my daughter Dawn ( http://365project.org/happilybarefoot/365) has been doing it and she has the facebook app installed.

Not sure if I'll do anything after the year is over besides look back at the pictures.

I need to come here for a few hours to look at photos. I browsed a little bit using tags and found so many awesome pictures.
April 25th, 2010
A friend on Facebook was doing it, and every day I looked forward to seeing the photos that he posted on Facebook, until I finally thought to myself 'why not me?' So here I am.
April 25th, 2010
I honestly can't remember how I found this, but I am sure glad I did! I'm also not sure what I love more...the photos or the great people behind them.
April 25th, 2010
I clicked on a facebook friend's photo on his feed and was instantly hooked.
April 25th, 2010
I found 365 through a travel website that I've discovered recently and got hooked on - Matador. Here is the post that brought me to Project 365:

http://matadorlife.com/call-for-submissions-so-what-did-you-do-today/

I thought that this was such a cool idea, but I wasn't sure if I should join, since I am far from a professional photographer. However, I collected some decent shots around Easter, and here I am - a passionate fan, snapping pictures all the time, and seeing the world through the lens! :-) I guess what I love the most about Project 365, apart from the daily photos, is the community of wonderful and amazing people i have found on here!! Including you, Karen, great discussion topic!! :-))
April 25th, 2010
I found it in a magazine article
April 25th, 2010
I followed a link on a personal blog I read and was instantly hooked. I just wish Id found it sooner as I have so many shots from our very memorable holiday in Italy over christmas which Id love to have a personal calendar record of (I could make one up going backwards I guess but its not quite the same thing is it?)
April 25th, 2010
Mady told me about the project and encouraged me to join. I googled and found this site. I started, she followed and we are slowly bringing in new converts all the time.
April 25th, 2010
A Facebook friend was doing it, so I jumped on board!
April 25th, 2010
My postcard friend Tiiti from Postcrossing site told about this. I joined in the same day. I love to be here.
April 25th, 2010
Was mentioned on a music forum I spend time on. There are a few of us from that forum signed up.
April 25th, 2010
One of my "friends" on facebook started doing it and after about I week I thought, "why not?" I like taking photos and wasn't having a great time at the time, but this has been really fun. Don't know what I'll do after the year's up, but I have a strong feeling I'll keep going for another year because this site's much more than just somewhere to upload photos. I've been really enjoying that part, but the bit that's kept me going is the sense of community.
April 25th, 2010
A facebook friend was doing it...then a few more online friends decided to start on the 1st Jan so I googled it and up this site came!
April 25th, 2010
Thanks for posting this discussion topic, Karen.

I happened upon the 365 Project one day when I was looking for a blog. I was told after my husband died that I should write about my thoughts. I kept looking at these people with horrified looks on why I would ever WANT to remember this pain. But I came to a point when I needed to do this. I was having trouble sleeping and reliving some of the grief over and over again. I needed to get it out, so I went to look for a blog. I typed in 365 (why? I can’t remember…!) in a search engine. I found it immediately, looked at site, and told myself it was a stupid idea…..

But I couldn’t get this idea out of my head for two days. Seriously, it ate at me! In late January I decided to sign up and posted my idea on Facebook and bought along a few friends so that I wouldn’t be alone.

I’ve already printed out some of the pictures from my project and will likely make a book. Still, it is painful for me to read some of my old entries and to look at the photos, but it’s also a chapter in my life. A video is such a good idea. Maybe I will do this as well. The ending project isn’t the point for me but rather that I have something to focus on each day.

I’ve wondered if I will do this project next year…and you know, I don’t know. I live my life one day at a time. Time will tell.

My friend, Wu, started posting her shots from the ABC challenge on FB and we would discuss it, etc. After the challenge, she stopped posting them on FB so I had to come here to see them. Seeing hers and others daily contributions reminded me of how much I miss photography, so I finally signed up myself :)
April 25th, 2010
My friend Carol posted some pics on Facebook in early January to a 365 album. I looked it up and found this site. I wasn't planning to do this myself, but I mentioned it to Lyn, who I knew was a dedicated and gifted photog, and she started in late Jan. After 3-4 days I thought to myself "why not?" and joined up, too, mostly posting on Facebook.

I didn't find this community until a month after I started my project; but boy, am I glad I did!

I'm not sure what to do with the pics yet. One thought is to choose one photo per month that truly represents that time, and make a 2011 calendar for myself and family. We'll see. ;)
April 25th, 2010
My sister started this Project; I wanted to watch her pics; and then I decided it looked like fun. I only have a simple camera and know nothing about editing -- but I saw that all levels of photography have a "home" on this Project. My life this winter had become all about work, pain and pills -- I thought this Project might bring something more positive into my days.
April 25th, 2010
I, err, don't actually remember... :/

Think I may've seen the name on somebody's Blog, Googled it, and ended up on the site... (Possibly!)
April 25th, 2010
Started from an article on the BBC news page/in pictures. The photographic editor was doing a project called Kodak 64 and then progressed to writing about various 365 projects. Followed it up and here I am!

My friend Poliana ( http://365project.org/polianasdh/365) invited me. I'm so happy for it!
April 25th, 2010
I have always loved taking pictures, and one of my friends invited me as we were taking random pictures at an amusement park. [:
April 25th, 2010
A bunch of people on a forum were doing it... Out of those dozen I think only myself and Naomi have stuck with it this long!!
April 25th, 2010
My friend from work (Chimom) told me she was doing it, and although I had no experience with photography whatsoever, I decided to give it a shot. I was going through a bit of a rough patch in several different aspects of my life, and as it turns out having something like this to focus on each day was exactly what I needed. I am so glad I decided to do it and I am very grateful to my friend for telling me about it in the first place. Thanks Chimom!

As for what I am going to do at the end of the year... I think I am going to have a photobook made through Kodakgallery or Snapfish with all of the pictures I have posted for the year, and then I will probably also print several of my favorites to frame and display around my apartment.
April 25th, 2010
A friend of mine mentioned it in a tweet, stumbled over here, had a quick look around and signed up!
April 25th, 2010
My daughter, Heather, http://365project.org/biggirlart/365 thought I might enjoy the challenge of posting a picture a day. I think she had no idea where this was going to lead for me! (I had no idea either!)
April 25th, 2010
i was on facebook one day and i saw my friend doing this project.. and so I looked at it and I thought it was a great idea! So i started one myself. :)
April 25th, 2010
I found the "Clouds 365 project" on Facebook and was immediately attracted to the idea of a 365 photo project, and googled "365 project" looking for an application. I'd been on the site for less than 5 minutes before I was hooked. In retrospect it was unusual for me because I usually check out all the major applications first, before making a decision.
April 26th, 2010
i like the concept of the 365project. however sometimes i get pressured and challenged what picture i should upload next. it's ok to post old pictures, right?
April 26th, 2010
My friend Sophie mentioned it to me. I find it funny that I started this project with several "real world" friends and I am the only one that lasted past January. I'm so glad I did because I am getting so much more out of this than I ever anticipated.
April 26th, 2010
I found a link on www.43things.com.
April 26th, 2010
I found out about this on twitter...just like Karen! Having a great time...learning about photography and meeting all these interesting people.
April 26th, 2010
I was recently talking to a friend (natandhayley) about getting motivated with photography and she got me to sign up here... and i am very thankful for it :) The people here are great and i love seeing the different photos everyone takes.
April 26th, 2010
Wanted to do a 365 project, and being the utilitarian, I googled for it :)
Found it and the rest is history :)
April 26th, 2010
I friend of mine started a 365 project as her new years's resolution. She is using Picasa to post hers, but she mentioned this site on her blog as an easy to use 365 site. So here I am - without her. This site is WAY better than using Picasa because of all of YOU.
I started it for myself, not caring who looked at it, but now I hope to both document my year - and take pictures that the community here will enjoy.
April 26th, 2010
i blame jess day!
April 26th, 2010
i was reading someone's blog from this knitting site i'm on, and it led me to their flickr set for 365, and then i found a bunch of flickr groups for 365...not sure of which type of 365 project thing i should do, i goggled, found this one, and like the whole layout/set up of it all...so then i joined this one
April 26th, 2010
I read about someone doing a 365 project, and then I googled how to do a 365 project and found a few sites about them and settled on this one.
April 26th, 2010
A friend of mine was doing some spectacular photography and was attempting to get me interested too. He suggested I try 365 to hone my skills and get ideas from the other photographers. Here I am, amazed by all of you and humbly trying to keep up with the days.
April 26th, 2010
After i bought my first point and shoot i was taking pictures and adding in a tumblr blog.....and with some random search i landed on a 365 project on flickr..i thought its an awesome thing to do. Then i started evaluating options...Flickr ..picasa..tweetpic...tumblr etc and after arandom google seardh i landed at this site and signed up immediately.....since then there is no looking back....at the same time suchita ( http://365project.org/suchita/365) was also looking for something similar so i managed to persuade her (she was already persuaded). Then a few more relatives and friends joined after they saw my pictures in Face book
This is my cousin papiya ( http://365project.org/papiya/365)
Daksh ( http://365project.org/daksh/365) his colleague nimisha ( http://365project.org/nimisha/365/2010-04)
My another friend Piyush ( http://365project.org/pijushhaldar/365)
and suchita's friend ( http://365project.org/garima/365)

I know a few excellent photographers but they have not fallen under my persuasive powers yet :D but i hope to bring them here some day!
April 26th, 2010
I am a scrapbooker and was at a scrapbook retreat last summer. One of the other people there was doing a 365 scrapbook. I thought it was a fantastic idea! I mentally filed the idea away because I wanted to start on January 1. So December rolled around and several friends and I decided we were going to give this a try. Initially, we were only going to do this as a scrapbook, but then we found this website (probably through Google), and here we all still are!

April 26th, 2010
I saw a friend on facebook doing her own project 365 so i googled the title....this project is sooo me as I enjoy taking pictures VERY much and I also like to journal each day. I hadnt thought about a video at the end but I really like that idea! :)
April 26th, 2010
I read about it on a teachers' chatboard that I belong to ... I don't "go" there anymore ... LOL! ... all my "free" time on the computer is spent here!
April 27th, 2010
A friend of mine over on Livejournal posted that she had started an account over here. And well I love her photos, I love to take photos, and I was already interested in starting some sort of 365 project. This was just the perfect idea for a challenge, a site dedicated to the purpose not just some random 'I'm going to start doing "this" sort of thing'. A way to put things in order and well, keep me focused on the project at hand ...and hopefully it works ha.
April 27th, 2010
I found out about it from a friend who's a journalist. She posted some pictures on Facebook that she'd taken and I was impressed. Who knew I would find some a wonderful community & have so much fun!
April 27th, 2010
I read about a guy taking a picture a day until Kodak stops producing Kodachrome film. It sounded like a cool idea, so I searched the web for a 365 site.
I am hoping to get better at photography by doing this, and I think I'm getting better. It's challenging finding a topic a day, but fun. Maybe one day I'll even play with Photoshop...
Everyone I know will be getting a calendar of 12 pictures for Christmas from me, I think...
April 27th, 2010
I have some Twitter friends who were doing this, and after I got my Rebel T2i I got on the bandwagon.
April 27th, 2010
I was returning from New Year's holiday and my friend Dora invited me. I was in doubt because my DSLR was broken and I had only the old Sony Cybershot 4M, but she encouraged me and now I'm happy taking part of 365.
April 27th, 2010
I found out about 365project.org thanks to my friend who created a photo blog inspired by 365project.org so I decided to check it out. I have a 10.2 megapixel Casio digital camera that I bring with me all the time. I started out making YouTube video blogs and other mini movies where I had fun editing. I decided to join this project because I've always wanted to talk about the photos I take. So here I am!
April 27th, 2010
I found 365 because one of my friends actually sent me a notification on facebook! I checked out the site and got instantly hooked!! I even bought a canon SLR because 365 has made me find out how much I love photography =] Im so thankful that I found out about this!!
April 27th, 2010
I was googling for pictures of something and found one in a blog which was a girl taking photos for the 365 project and I thought this is awesome so I goggled 365 project and the rest is history! Gotta love google! ;)
April 27th, 2010

my humans sister told me about...
April 28th, 2010
My friend Susan sent it to me as link. She found it through facebook I believe.
April 28th, 2010
My friend Yin persuaded me. I'd been terrible at keeping in touch since she returned to Hong Kong 8 years ago. Now we're in touch almost every day and I'm really enjoying it. Even though I only have an old canon ixus and little time for doing the project it's the only journal I've ever managed to keep. I'll probably start doing a scrapbook soon.
April 28th, 2010
Through a mate who was on here, who actaully now does not post at all as he does not get time.
April 28th, 2010
pure luck i googled 365 when i noted a few folk on flicker starting a 365 ... This website came up in the top 5 hits & it was the first one i clicked on ,, that was 97 images ago.. met a lot of nice people on this site which is a big plus for the site long may it continue .... (o;
