Does anyone else have 'repeat' subjects that they keep shooting? I have recently become obsessed with these Black Shouldered Kites that live in the trees near my farm. So far I have posted three pics of these gorgeous birds and have probably 100 others on file...Before that I posted sunrise/sunsets to the point even my kids asked when was I going to do something different....So just wondering... do all your pics have a 'theme' or do you prefer to mix it up a little??
I noticed awhile ago that most of my flower photos are daisies. They're far from my favourite but they dominate my gardens so I work with what I have. I'm starting to like them more and more though and I'm about to post another 2 lol.
On another note, your photo is excellent!! :-)
my challenge for june is to photograph toronto's CN tower which is a city landmark. but i have photographed it in the past at various times. like @dmortega, i also call it a "series". i think it keeps one disciplined and forces you to be creative.
@amz87 They look like beautiful birds. I think we all get attracted to thinks we like. That is why tis site is so good it gives a new perspective on things to shoot.
@lolanae - LOOK AT THOSE EYES! wonderful candid shot! Lovely! @dmortega@summerfield - I hadn't thought about it as a series, but that makes sense - Thank you. Using your pictures to tell a story or deliver a narrative. Very clever.
I reckon I could spend a year just photographing the world that is Transport for London! Shooting repeat subjects isnt necessarily a bad thing if you are aligning them to a narrative theme in your 365 project - but it does also come down to available time behind the camera as well. I know that some days it will be late in the evening and you need a picture so its a matter of resorting to what you can get - which is some cases can mean shooting the same things time and time again :) But no reason why there could not be a small series within the project - say a week devoted purely to one subject - so you could basically end up with 52 different narratives for your 365 project!
I believe that variety is the spice of life, and that is what makes photography so interesting and compulsive. There is so much 'out there' to photograph that I just mix and match as it comes, without ever searching for a particular subject, although I do find myself returning time and again to a few favourites such as railways, boats, architecture, doors, windows, farm buildings, phone booths, post boxes, street lamps, wildlife, coastal and river walks, and a few other things, but every day is different and totally unplanned and I rarely show similar subjects on consecutive days unless it makes a series or tells a story.
Yes, birds in my yard. Tons of them. Sometimes the same ones over and over but the photos just get better! You can't ignore those birds...they're gorgeous :)
I really like to try and mix it up so I can use the project to push myself. Recently I have been doing more fun edits, but try to change the subject matter. I will always go to a flower though for a standby.
Sometimes I think I am influenced by the people I follow and when I see awesome photos I want to try that subject, other days I think "it is my 365, so take the photo of what I want"...covered bridges are a fav beacause my kids are grown and out of the house.
I totally and utterly mix it up. It depends on what grabs my attention on that particular day, what mood I'm in, how much effort I can be bothered putting in... xD
@notliz Love your kite pics! I have one main obsession... like so many mum's (and dad's too) ;-) I'm trying very hard to take pictures of other subjects too... but let's face it; my little guy is a big part of me!
@notliz Birds have totally taken over my photography in the last two years !!! I am totally obsessed with them. the Black Shouldered Kite would be one of them if I could ever find one that was conveniently posing! they are stunning , especially close up :)
@swilde Sue, hard to find me in my new picture, or out here on 365? I was hiding between bottles trying to sneak up and get the perfect picture of the carmel color tones of bourbon and did not want to surprise them.
For me it is the Golden Bosun Birds, I will miss them when I finish here, followed closely by the Red Crabs and probably my fallback he spectacular sunsets. I try to only post one or two of each of these each month
On another note, your photo is excellent!! :-)
want to check out my june album? :-)
Then there is always the three year old...She's a bundle of surprises.
@dmortega @summerfield - I hadn't thought about it as a series, but that makes sense - Thank you. Using your pictures to tell a story or deliver a narrative. Very clever.
