This has probably been discussed already, but if so, haven't been able to find it.
Spot colour in b&w is something completely new to me. Is there anyone able to offer advice or suggest particularly good websites to follow. Thanks
There are various ways to do it but if you use picnik you can do it in that using the Black and White effect. If you google selective colouring and whatever editing programme you use a tutorial will come up for it.
I did this in picnik.. I made the frame out of rectangle shapes in the Effect box and then I did black and white and on the Black & White thing you just clicked, theres a little brush. Click it, and now a little box should pop up with slides. Now you can change the size of your brush, hardness, and strength. I just did the color inside the frame, to look like this! Good luck!
Yes, I use Picnik. It's free and you can doo selective colouring with an easy mouse-click. Upload a picture, then go to the tab 'Create' and then to the 'Effects' button. Click on Black and White and then you get a circle on your mouse-pointer and you can drag it over the picture to wipe the B&W away, so to say...
Do you think this will work for you?
Here's a few I did last month. I try to find a subject where color is an important part of how we associate with it ( I use photoshop to do these).
e.g. a red wagon
You can have two versions of the same photo: one in color and the other one in b&w.
You paste (on Photoshop, of course) the b&w over the color one and "errase" the parts you want to color. As the color photo is under the b&w one, instead of errasing, you will be coloring :)
@tigervolleyball - love your photo. I use picnic too and know how to do selective colouring but could I have some instructions on how to get that rectangle shape in the middle of the photo please.
This was my first attempt at selective coloring. It's ok, but I'm not crazy about it. I used the Picnik program. It was easy to use, but I think I need more practice. I'm looking for another subject to play around with in the future.
@kjarn Yeah no problem. ;) So when you are on the Create tab at the top, go to the stickers... scroll down until you find Geometric stickers. It probably works alot better if you use the rectangle shape, not the square.. Then add 4 of them to the photo, and make them as skinny or fat as you want, and rotate them to the spot you want them to be, until they all are the same size and in the right place! Then you can do the selective coloring inside the 'frame' or outside! Hopefully that helped.. :) Thank you so much!
i don't use selective coloring technique often.. hihihi once in a while yes.. this i think is my first and last to date.. i have three portraits of this kind of technique here on 365.. ^__^
Another way to do this in photoshop is the "reverse Black & White"- it converts the whole photo to BW, then you just brush in the color you want. Easier than masking. :)
