Getting followed

May 27th, 2010
Hey peeps,

I'm new to this and I've noticed that many of you have tens if not hundreds of followers in what seems like a relatively short space of time. How did you guys and gals do this? Am I missing a trick?

A good way to get followers is to be an active commenter. The more comments you make, the more people notice you and want to see your work and hear what you have to say. I've noticed that I get fewer comments when I've been away from my computer for a couple of days and haven't had the opportunity to view and comment on photos, but if you have the time to actively engage the community, they will reciprocate. Enjoy!

Great tip, thanks!

Exactly what Ashley said.
Just go around comment on people, be friendly, follow other people and people will start to follow you! No tricks or anything, just plain old fashion niceness!

Here's why being an active commenter works so well. Often people are overwhelmed by the sheer volume of the of folks they follow so they may concentrate on the people who comment on them. It isn't because they are uninterested in expanding. They just run out of time. So keep your name in front of people and they will inevitably click on your name after you post a comment and then respond. Good luck.

I agree with Ashley. A lot of people will follow back, too.

Ashley and Allison are right on the money! I used to try to comment every few days to the poeple who follow me, but it finally because impossible. I do, however, try to reciprocate a comment if one's been left for me...and I also try to let the poeple I am following, know that I'm enjoying their work. It's a pleasure taking the time. If you're enjoying it, the rest will fall in line. Now I'm off to see what you've been photographing!

(I do know how to spell "people"... I'm just not always such a competant typist!)

yep! just be friendly, be you, be responsive, comment when you have the time, let people know if you really like their photos! :D

To be followed, you must follow first...at least initially.

you have started your way into the world of followers, Follow people, look at their favs and you might find others you want to follow. it is a two way street. Follow and following as well as commenting. Starting threads help too.

I made my start by browsing the popular page and directly expressing my wonder at the photos on there by commenting on them. :) So if you like a photo, comment and say so - the rest will just happen!

You surely have to follow and fav. Having good photographs helps a little.
Being a girl and taking self portraits is also a great way to get views.

Ha Zac, your last tip is unfortunately out of my control! But you're right!

Like everybody else said, I stared off by making comments and following other people. I took a look of your photos, they are very impressive. i like your style, so there you go, I'm a "follower" now :) but the bottom line: your photo speaks for itself :)

Unfortuntely not everyone you follow will follow you sometimes they have so many already they forget that they are not following you and still when they like a picture of yours you get their comment. at times i find this a bit depressing that when you look at their list of the once they follow and your pictures is not there but not to worry there are others that when you follow them and they will get an e-mail saying so mostly they then look at your pictures and a return e-mail will tell you that they now follow you too.i also noticed that this program not always shows everyone that follows you in the list that is made up of your followers.

Yeah I find commenting on people's photos and in the discussion boards is a great way to get noticed, not to mention it's fun to interact with everyone on here. Commenting on popular pieces is a good idea too, but also just browsing in general is good (latest, by day).
Being followed isn't the be-all and end-all however, focus on the photos :P hehe
