This Sunday I am going to be taking family photos for the woman who used to babysit my daughter. I am so excited, but also a little nervous. She insists on paying me, so this will be my first paying gig (yay!).
I really love this family and I want to do a great job for them. Could anyone offer any advice for someone just starting out? I would love some ideas for posing if anyone has any :) It will be the woman, her husband, their 2 daughters (3 and about 6 months) and possibly the woman's mother and sister. The pictures are going to be in their backyard, and in front of their fireplace.
Check out some photographers' sites and blogs, and make basic sketches of poses you like, that you can refer to during a shoot. I still do that! Good luck!
I was asked to shoot maternity photos for a good friend. I had never done this so I spent about an hour searching tags on this site, finding pictures that I liked or unique styles and sent links to my friend. I asked her to tell me what she liked or did not like in the photos, which really helped me find a good location, time of day and about eight to ten poses we wanted her to try. I also told her to find pictures of what she liked. That way the expectations and my confidence (lack of) worked much better together.
