I've always had a fondness for street & documentary photography. I've never stepped out and tried it myself...until today. The fair is in town and I knew if I was going that I'd have my camera in tow. Not only did I run into friends that I hadn't seen in far too long, but I crossed paths with this amazing subject. The moment I laid eyes on him just sitting there statuesque on his bench I said to myself "I don't care how awkward it might be, but I'm turning around and asking this man if I can take his photograph", I can't say enough times how glad I am that I did! After quietly agreeing to let me take a shot of him, he told me that he was a Navajo Indian.
So, what's your favorite street or documentary photo?
Not easy to just choose one, have so many pictures taken on the street. But if I had to choose, it's this one. I'm happy with the result. Think the colours and feeling of it work well.
Just yesterday I saw a man sitting on the sidewalk paying guitar and I regret not asking him.....so good for you! One day I'll get my nerve up. This photo is from a trip to the doc's office. I was hiding behind my magazine :)
@bec01 I have to ask... what exactly is going on there? O.o It looks like he's wearing a... something... on his back foot, nothing on the front, and is in danger of serious injury.... It's pretty intriguing. :D
Looking at all these shots makes me want to give street photography another try. I was in a restaurant when I took this:

Great thread , as street shots are becoming more popular on here I think you should start one similar to Browse and Pick threads...where people get to show off weekly street shots
As an ex-pat (idiot abroad?!), my project has a lot of street and documentary shots, where I'm trying to capture the everyday stuff I take for granted.

I do a fair amount of street shots when I am traveling, but not so much at home. The last few days street shooting caught my attention a little. Went out and got this one today. One of these days I'll do a week or month of street. Not right now, but there is some great stuff out there.
@laburgett Street photography is really rewarding in terms of what you get (most unexpectedly)..good you didn't let the "what if" overcome you. Nice shot.
I just realized how personal I've kept this project. I am taking a lot more street photography with a local photgraphy group and have lots of pictures on flickr but not so many here. Here's a few which are posted here.
