My tree picture seemed to have brought back memories for a lot of folks, I never had a real tree growing up so this year is my first. Whenever I think about going to pick out the tree I just think of the movie "A Christmas Story" where Ralphie drops the f-bomb!

I want to know your tree stories! Those magical, magical trees that grace our homes for only a few weeks each year but seem to bring us so many memories in such a short time!

It can be anything, how your family picked it out each year, how it caught fire that year, how you didn't have one one year! Humor me!

Now please excuse me, I have to go stop my dog before she drinks all the water out of the dish for our tree.....

We went one year and picked out a live tree from a tree farm. It was a beautiful blue spruce took it home decorated it. Well a few days later we had a bug infestation. It appears some type of insect layed its eggs in that tree and after being in the house with the warm temps they hatched. These things were every where. It was a mess to say the least. Memories...........

I've never had a live tree. Maybe back in Indiana, but when we moved out to California when I was three, my parent bought a fake tree. My parents have had one ever since and so have I.

None of us in our family can really justify the expense of a live tree, nor do I relish the thought of killing a tree just to use it as a decoration in the corner of the room for three weeks while it quickly becomes a fire hazard.

Yeah, I know, call me Scrooge, but that's my story and I'm sticking with it.

We haven't had a real tree in ages. My husband's aunt's house almost burned down because of one, but that was back in the day of the hot lights. I am not opposed to real ones from an environmental standpoint since they are raised for the purpose. (Exceptions for me though are the White House tree and the Rockefeller tree. It makes me sick to see such huge old trees cut down.) I do miss the semll of a new one.

My only interesting story about real Christmas trees is that I have a nice forest of eleven Norway spruce along the back of my property that were salvaged from a Christmas tree farm that went out of business. We found someone that transplanted them cheaply several years ago, and now they're probably 20 feet tall and home to all kinds of wild critters.

By the way, I'm a huge fan of A Christmas Story. I'm a Hoosier born and bred.

My Christmas story goes back to when my children were little. We were on a limited budget and looking for the cheapest live tree that we could find. We went from lot to lot. It was getting late and my son was growing tired of our hunt so he had gone to sleep on the back seat. My husband finally scored a tree for $15.00 and came back to the car to tell me about his find. I told him to go ahead and get this tree. My son, from the back seat, piped up and said "You're going to pay $15.00 for a tree with no roots?" Every year when I see families out looking for their Christmas tree I think of my young son in the back seat and wonder what these people are spending on their tree this year! Happy tree hunting to all..

I'm so surprised by how many people have artificial trees! When I was growing up in upstate New York, we always went to a Christmas tree farm and cut down our own tree. We always looked for hours before picking the biggest and best one. My husband and I continued this tradition with our own four kids at this Christmas tree farm in Vermont.

I don't see this as wasteful or bad for the environment because it's just like any other kind of farming. The farmers plant more trees every year and those trees provide an income for the farmer and a whole bunch of employees (keeping jobs in America) and a habitat for birds and other critters. Unlike artificial trees, real Christmas trees are biodegradable. We put ours in the woods behind our house as a habitat for more animals, and they gently decompose, but I live by the ocean and alot of people donate their trees to the seashore to help build dunes and prevent erosion. Here is our tree this year:
