Hello again - I was thinking back to the discussions I've had with a few people over the past month about urban photography and thought perhaps I would have an "environmental" theme for this first one, and combine 2 topics : urban and nature. I've always loved the juxtaposition of the two and a while ago I came across a blog from Anna Hillman, where she posted some great images that I found really inspiring, and which set me off on a mini project of my own. Here's a link to her site : Anna Hillman Photography
So - for this month, I was thinking perhaps nature interacting with the urban environment - of flowers or plants in places you don't expect to find them, an image of fields with something industrial in the background, trees surrounded by concrete and bricks, little sprinkles of green leaves growing in the pavement or along a tarmac road. It's not about traditional beauty - as these pictures show below, even dandelions and ragweed can make an interesting photo (imo) ...
I hope this is ok for a first project and that you'll join in ... am really looking forwards to seeing what everyone comes up with as we're all spread so widely across the world!
And sorry for waffling on for so long ... !
*** UPDATE - The tag for your images is : urban-theme-nature ***
Tags good then you see images of people who do this that you don't follow. Perhaps urban-nature or urban1 then can easily change tags as go along with different months. Just suggestion....have a look at other themes and see how they tag there challenges.
@dibzgreasley@newbank : Sorry, have only been here a month so no idea how these things work! Am happy to do whatever works best for everyone. I understand the tagging thing but would there be a way to see the images all in one place?
@joansmor Hi Joan : it's about showing the flower (or other nature) in it's "urban environment", rather than just taking a picture of a flower in a city park, if that is what you meant .. ? If you click on the links, you can see the sort of thing I was suggesting ... but you know, it's just a suggestion :) K
I know, trying to be helpful! I didn't have a clue when I first started! And tagging is the best way to see them all in one place. When you choose a tag they will all be grouped together when someone uses that tag. That make sense? You're doing a fab job. When I set up a theme it took me a few weeks to get everything set up in my thread in one go!
@shotbykaren So, what should we put for the tag? UrbanNature could be good. OR, since we are collaborating the 2, we could use "Naturban" or "Urbanature" ha - just suggestions obviously.
There is also a way to post the photos in a reply message on this discussion.
But I LOVE "urbanature" as a topic of a project - copyright it, quick !!
Yes I thought about posting here - whatever works easiest for people, I just can't wait to see what people put up, there's some great photographers on here :)
@shotbykaren Thank you! I have quite a few ideas for what I have here in the town I'm from. "Urbanature" rolls off the tongue pretty well, I will need to jot that idea down! ha.
I am at work unfortunately on Labor Day. I hope to post tomorrow!
Here's my first attempt at Urban Nature. I took this today while out on my daily walk. We decided to drive to an area where we knew there were some awesome homes and found this on the way.
@shotbykaren The "Discuss" tab at the top will give you a drop down box and you can select the "Themes and Competitions" button to press, which will bring you to all the themes posts. Also, if you search the tag, "urban-theme-nature" in the search box(at the top of the page) and then click on Photos you can see all the pictures that have been submitted for this theme.
Are we going to do the entire month as urban nature or are we going to change it after a couple if weeks and just cycle them for the year or however long we last.
@shotbykaren maybe urban art...tagging, graffiti, murals or urban decay...abandoned buildings, junk yards, old car yards, broken fences. Sorry I'm not overly creative today. Maybe it was lack of morning coffee :)

That will group all the images on to one page
@lisawashere : you have 29 days left lol :)
@k1w1 : excellent - post something for today from your walk, even if its something you don't want for the challenge!
