Hey everyone!! Thanks for making the Object Challenge #1 SO successful! I can't believe all the imaginative things you guys came up with for a plain old boring can. Your soda can pics were amazing! Here are a few favorites from that challenge:
Have you ever thought of how crazy it is that the people on this site, or photographers and artists in general can look at the same exact subject in such a different way? That we can find one object, yet the photographs that spawn from our imaginations of that exact same object are completely and totally different.
I propose a weekly challenge! Each week, on Friday, I will name an object that we all take a photo of. Then we post them on this thread and see how completely different each of us saw that object! (and of course suggestions for objects each week are COMPLETELY welcome!)
How about this week we do...*drumroll please*....a tire.
Put your creative caps on people...how can you make a tire CREATIVE??
Let's tag this week's can "objectchallenge-tire".
THANK GOD! I feel like every can I saw (they're everywhere by the way) was a potential subject. There was also great restraint to avoid taking a picture of my wife's "cans" and the "can" in the bathroom. I know that's off-color, but I bet a couple of you laughed.
Great idea Amy. I appreciate you hosting this weekly event.
@amyhughes too many! I have a Townie commuter bike, a Cannondale Jekyll mountain bike, a Lemond titanium road bike and a Cervelo time trial bike. And then there are three more family bikes hanging around in the "bike" room. It's kinda like an illness of some sort :-)
This tyre (as we spell it in Aussie language lol) is actually a real BMX style tyre that has been used as a mirror - very cool mirror for a boys bedroom. So the middle is a reflection!
I got a bunch of Dale Jr. 1/24 scale cars but unfortunately they are still mint in box so I can't touch them, lol. I'll find something to take a picture of this week though.
@tnamari love how you can see you in the reflection.. i tried to do that in a dent in a car once.. didnt quite work.. will try again when i find another nice looking dent :P
@tenortottie Thanks...I may clean my rims and try again later this week if weather permits.....Hope you find the perfect dent....maybe you could go to a junk yard? I bet there would be lots of interesting photos out there.
Great got this challenge just as I was going back to work at sea and was wondering How many tires am I going to find out there. As it turns out some ships just love tires and will do anything to cover themselves in them.
@jromamma. My problem too when I first saw the challenge. To Post? When you put the photo in your album open it and look to the right at the bottom, there is a lable share, just copy and paste the text from the box to here in the reply box. Good luck.
Here is what some of out tires look like here in the midwest after the big snowstorm. This is the tire on our grill after thundersnow, 60 mph winds, and 18 inches of snow in about 12-16 hours.
Great idea Amy. I appreciate you hosting this weekly event.
@jcrowley40 bah! I laughed. My husband helped me with this theme choice...his first idea was a spin off of the "cans". He wanted it to be "jugs".
SHOW ROOM FLOOR
Which actually is my kitchen island...with the 1/18th scale mustang up on blocks because I stole its tires for this shot. :)
When does it run until?
This tire is on my little brothers little toy fire truck.
There wasn't much of interest to take pictures of at my allotment today until I remembered the tyre challenge.
A not very often used bike tyre (as we spell it in Australia)
Another Australian tyre.
going for the marks that tyres make
I like the texture of the rubber against the road
here is my take! forgot to post it here :)
here's mine, spend 4 hours in tyrefitters this afternoon after a double puncture and a "bulger"!!!
It's totally a coincidence that I took this photo on the first day of this challenge!
From the Bike Sculpture in PDX across from Powell's Bookstore and next to American Apparel.

A home by the tyre
An abandoned yellow car hosts the cats. They get food from the neighbors
Picture is of my 11 month old boxer/cattle dog puppy. Went with the interpretation of being "Tired."
