Minimal-8 Challenge begins

January 22nd, 2020
I would like to thank everyone who voted for my photo Christmas Light to win the Minimal-7 challenge. What an ego boost! Thanks to Etienne for hosting the previous minimalist challenge and guiding me in the procedure for hosting the next challenge. It is an honour to host Minimal-8.

The minimalist challenge is generic and open to all minimalist entries. The suggested optional theme is “Paper"; this theme is not mandatory but can be used as a source for ideas and inspiration. It is quite minimal itself and it will be interesting to see how you can make it artistic and interesting.

The challenge start is backdated to Monday January 20th and will run until Sunday February 16th, 2020 by midnight in your time zone.

Photos must be taken within this time frame. Voting will take place shortly after. The winner will then host the next round and will also propose another optional theme.

Regarding minimalist photography:

Many definitions & examples of minimalist photography are out there to consider. Here is a guideline : minimalism is indeed the art of less. As a life philosophy, minimalists focus on a few essential elements of life and cast unnecessary things aside. Same pretty much goes for this photography style. Minimalism is a style employed by many 20th Century artists, using a minimum amount of components such as colour, shape, line and texture to emphasise the subject matter.

Keep effects and processing to a minimum also.

I hope you will enjoy this challenge. Looking forward to seeing your entries and hoping some new members will join in too !
