ABSTRACT CHALLENGE -9

May 28th, 2018
Firstly, Thankyou to @chikadnz for hosting the previous challenge.

Secondly, to everyone who liked and voted for my abstract "capture" (a word I have added to my vocabulary) - a big, big Thankyou. Being a newcomer to 365, this has been a huge confidence boost for me (especially when I browse through such amazing photography and graphics on 365 - so much talent and expertise !) Thanks so much.

I copy the information and guide-lines for Challenge-9 and hope many of you will take on this challenge and have fun with your creative side. I know we will see some amazing shots.

So here we go -

The challenge was started by Sarah @sarahlth in September 2017 and her original post explained:

‘On this site we have lots of great abstract images. We have the mundane abstract challenge, but this ties the shots to a certain subject. I thought it might be fun to start a pure abstract challenge, with no limit to the subject.

As defining abstract can be difficult I have added this link to introduce and develop your idea of what abstract photography is.’ https://petapixel.com/2017/03/20/introduction-abstract-photography/

And from @annied:

'Abstract photography is based on the photographers eye. We're looking to capture something in a way that it would not usually be seen. Looking for the details, the patterns, the lines, the form, shape and colors that complete a subject and utilizing those key features to make an engaging image.’

Choose a subject and try to see it in abstract form so that the subject is not easily recognisable. There are no restrictions on what to shoot. You might want to try a subject that you know very well or something quite new to you. You could choose a particular angle or close in on a part of it. You will need to consider factors such as what focal length and which exposure parameters would be best to realise your vision…

Please keep these things in mind:

1. As far as possible the actual object is not immediately recognisable.
2. Remember that this is all about seeing abstract before you shoot.
3. To really challenge your eye you might consider SOOC but this is not compulsory.
4. Post-production - edits such as colour saturation, contrast enhancements and black and white conversion are acceptable, but please do not apply any software filters that distort or significantly change the image in order to make it abstract. There are other challenges for that, e.g. ETSOOI.
5. The images should be taken within the time frame of the challenge.
6. You can enter as many images as you like.
7. As with other challenges the person who wins has the honour of hosting the next one.

You have 2 weeks to complete this challenge: the images you enter must be taken and uploaded between Monday 28 May and Monday 11 June (midnight in your time zone).

Soon afterwards I will choose finalists to be voted on. The winner gets the honour of hosting the next challenge!

please tag your images: abstract-9
and see them all here https://365project.org/tags/abstract-9

Would be nice if you post your images to this thread so others can appreciate and be inspired by them!
