Just curious to see what editing programs does everyone use?
I am so excited my sisters boyfriend got me Photoshop CS5, Lightroom 3.3 & OnOne today! Now I need to sit down and watch a ton of tutorials to learn them :]
I've been a Photoshop user for about 12 years, but once I got Lightroom last year my world has changed. In my opinion it's perfect for your traditional "developing" process for digital photos. On top of that it makes cataloging thousands of photos a breeze.
About 90% of my processing is done in LR, but there are still times when you'll need the power of photoshop to work with layers or handle major retouching tasks.
Your sister's boyfriend is very generous! (at least, I hope that's the case).
I use Aperture 3 for 90% of my editing, Topaz Labs DeNoise5 if I need to remove noise from a shot and Photoshop CS4 for anything where I need to use layers. I also use LuminanceHDR for HDR work and Hugin for Panorama stitching.
@emsabh I tried NoiseNinja and Nik Dfine (trail versions) as well and found DeNoise gave the best result (for me anyway). Not to mention it's 1/2 the price of Nik!
@fillingtime I recently was turned onto Topaz by a local photo friend. I've been dabbling in DeNoise, Adjust and Clean. trial versions too, which is great to really try it. I'm likely to get a couple of the programs. I think Aperture will continue to mature in terms of its core functions.
I don't like to tinker with my photos too much. But I do use PE6 (yes...it's a bit older, but it does the trick) I also scour the internet for free actions. MCPactions is great. Pioneer Woman Ree Drummond has some great actions for free.
I use ACDSee for cropping, Picnik for collages and GIMP for anything more exciting. Plus Microsoft Office Picture Manager for renaming lots of photos in sequence. :-)
I use Adobe Photoshop Elements....just upgraded to version 9 up from 4. I don't like to process my pictures much....just simple little things like cropping, erasing small imperfections and lighting. I'm trying to stay a "purist" but it gets tempting when I see all the processing on so many of the pictures.....we shall see.... :)
I was planning to get Lightroom, but when the Mac App store had Aperture on sale on the opening day we decided to buy that instead. I also get a lot of great use from Picnik online!
Photoshop Elements!! Love the plug-ins you can download, and it's much cheaper than the full versions for amateurs like me. Didn't like lightroom, but I can see why pros do.
@meshinka I used Lightroom 2 for three months, and I have to say I was seriously unimpressed. Lightroom is a combination of database program and photo editor, although it is like a light version of Photoshop.
The problem with Lightroom is the way it catalogs the photos. Every time you move a photo, it has to rewrite the entire catalog system and so the program runs much slower than Photo Mechanic.
