So i just downloaded a trial of this adobe photoshop lightroom thingy.. does anyone recommend it? ive had fun playing with it so far but not sure if i should spend the money if there is something else out there thats better?
Yeh I too use it religiously.
I trailed it about three years ago and just didn't get into it and never did anything at the end of the trial. Then when I got the mac I thought I would try it again and something just clicked. I suspect I only use 10% of it's capabilities. The question is how much do you think you'll use it? See how it goes over the next 30 days. Is it on the mac or PC
I have been using the trial version for about a week and love it as well but I'm struggling to import images from iphoto. I don't have a problem when direct off the camera but it seems to import random images and not the ones I want.
I couldn't live without it. If you're going to use it I highly recommend going through a book that walks you through it. You'll be a pro over a weekend.
No you won't be a pro over a weekend. This program is way too rich in features for that. It's a great way to organise your photos and to make basic adjustments for each photo (contrast, white balance, lens corrections, etc.). You can rate photos, assign keywords, create collections (without having to physically create duplicate files). It's more a managing program than something like photoshop (although it integrates seamlessly with PS). I've been using it for a year now and I would not want to use anything else, BUT the learning curve was steep. The good thing is that almost everything is somehow reversible. But you better "practise" on a subset of your photos before you apply it to your whole collection.
I just downloaded the trial too, and have been having fun learning to use it!! Mainly, I just click around and use what I like, but I will probably try to get a book or something, like @marubozo suggests, if I decide to buy it. Too bad it costs so much! Does anyone have any alternate suggestions to spending the full $90 or whatever it costs?
Also-- for those of you that use and love it: I have been having some trouble exporting/saving my edited photos. Any tips would be greatly appreciated, or a favorite website for tips like this. It's probably a really dumb question or an easily solvable issue, but I would appreciate the support! I have a mac :)
I too am a huge fan of Lightroom.. Was using it happily for a few months, then watched some of the tutorials on lynda.com by Chris Orwig, and learned s much more.
You can get free trials at Lynda.com, and I definitely recommend them!
Oh yes....... I downloaded the trial and was really impressed - the only prob being it slowed down my laptop sooooooooooo much I decided to hold back on buying (or rather getting hold of a copy) until ie get myself a PC with more memory..
I recently got it when I upgraded to CS5 and found it made a massive improvement to workflow. Which is essentially what it is - a workflow management tool. The editing features are basic compared to Photoshop, but are sufficient for most requirements and allow quick adjustment. I would not be without it now.

Other than that - would highly recommend...
Had lightroom existed when I bought the professional version of photoshop and I would have never bought photoshop!
