@Scrivna - I don't know if it's possible but is there anyway a LIKE button could be added? There are lots of photos that I like but I can't think of things to write about them. It would be great just to press a LIKE button.
This has been discussed before and ultimately voted down, I think, one reason being most people didn't want this site to be too much like FaceBook. One of the ideas of appreciating others' photos is to be able to develop critical skills. If you can't think of anything to say you could just write something like 'great shot'. Eventually, other ideas will come to you.
There is already the option to "fav" a photo which shows you like it and gives you the opportunity to view it again easily.
I wouldn't like a 2nd button with the same function to be added, I love all the comments I receive even if it's a simple "Great picture" or "I really like this" and I'm not sure I would receive the same level of joy if I received a notification "X likes your picture"
Noooooo!!! A Fave button is good enough for those special photos--I think a Like button would just make this site really impersonal. Too easy...too FaceBook. I would rather no comment at all than a Like button.
Thank you all for your comments - I appreciate your thoughts and can see why there isn't a like button. I'll just have to learn how to be more creative in my comments!
i like the crits and comments that people write - and to be honest when i don't get many comments i know that a photo has not worked to well.
Fav is a good function - although it would be nice to get some more favs it takes time to develop your skills to the point where you please people enough for the shot to make their favs :D
@difeeney It's good to keep airing some of these questions, especially when opinions might change over time. Glad to see that the consensus seems to be to keep away from the Like button, though, for the reasons @pwallis gives. And sometimes it's good to know exactly what it is about a shot that others like or don't like. At others, just one or two words of appreciation are all we need.
I would probably "like" a lot of photos but most definitely still comment on those that I just have to (like on FB, some I "like" some I comment, some nothing) I am stingy with giving out Fav's not sure why, but I think there is a big difference between the 2, just my 2 pennies....
I have to say, when I first started with this I found myself looking for that "like" button, but by not having one it actually forces me to figure out what it is that I like about the photo, and I think that is helping me when I go to take my own (although I must admit I fall into the "cool pic, great photo" as well because sometimes . . .. well .......I really do just think it is a cool picture or an all around great photo :) )
I don't think a "like" button would be in the better interest of the 365 community. At first I wanted one like facebook so I could just "like" and go...But as many people have said before, people will just start "liking" photos instead of taking the time to write a personal comment about WHY they like the photo, and how it influenced/inspired them ect..
I think a "like" button would be the equivalent to typing (*like*) into the comment box.... Thats not very fun to get is it?
