Last night, an unseasonable snow storm hit us with a vengeance. Around 6:15 pm, my husband and I were looking out the window and noticed a tree sagging over our house. I looked at him and said “we are going to lose power”. At that moment, we heard a transformer blow, the whole sky turned bluish green and our power went out. My husband, son and I spent the night cuddled in our bed to stay warm. The only word that I can come up with to describe the night was creepy. When we were in bed, it was pitch dark and silent. The only sounds that we could hear were tree branches snapping all around us and transformers blowing. I was so scared that a tree was going to fall on our house. Luckily, we made it through the night with no damage to any of us or our property. There is a broken tree lying on our house, but it does not seem to be in jeopardy of causing damage. We went out into the neighborhood to survey the damage, and it was crazy out there. Nothing had been plowed due to all of the tree limbs and downed wires. By late morning, it was obvious that we were going to be without power for a while, so we packed some bags and headed to my parents’ house. Getting there was pretty dangerous. Main roads were blocked with huge trees and telephone poles. At a few points, we had to drive over power lines because they were just lying in the street. We made it safely to my parents’ house and enjoyed heat and warm showers. [SOOC]
I am just getting a chance to upload this photo after our power outage ordeal.
Oh! It was the worst night ever. The sound of trees cracking and falling all night long. We had a huge tree fall in our front yard. All I can say is thank goodness I had some wine! Otherwise I would have been panicked. :) glad your home was safe.
