11th September 2024

Up at a good time as we had left our packing to this morning and I had managed to extend our check out to 11.00am instead of 10.00am. It was easy to pack up as the apartment is a bit smaller than the last one and a bit spartan.

We finally left on the dot of 11.00am and got on the Metro almost straight away although I got us off too early so we had to get back on again. This is the time that suitcases don’t seem such a good idea. e made our way to the luggage lockers only to discover that one side was out of order and so all were full. A brief panic unit Coin found out thee were lockers across the street. They were about three times more expensive but seemed to work efficiently so we could leave cases and rucksacks safe fo a couple hours.

We then caught the Metro in the wrong direction, got off again and finally headed for Herrenplatz where we had visited a couple of days ago. We wandered for a bit until we chose a cafe and stopped for a last coffee melange and cinnamon bun for me and apple strudel for Colin. Then it was time to go and retrieve our luggage from the lockers and catch the train to the airport (handily only €4 with our travel cards). Check in was much easier than over a week ago at Terminal 3 in Heathrow.

We found somewhere to sit and shared a sandwich and had a last Austrian beer before heading to the gates and boarding almost immediately. The flight was pretty full again and we lost the middle seat but even so, it was a newer plane and it was an uneventful journey back home and th ebest part was flying in (and then circling) over central London with outstanding views of the river Thames, central London and then Kew Gardens on the final approach to Heathrow.

The journey started to go downhill when we decided to take the bus back to Teddington with the plan that i would nip back for the car. However, the SL7 was delayed, we got on a 285 which basically seems to visit the entire of South West London before deciding ti was going to terminate somewhere near Feltham. We stood in the cold waiting for another bus and I had to stand up all the way to stop the cases rolling around. Not a great end to the day but Mr Huffkins was up and out for a meet and greet when we finally arrived home.

We’ve had a good trip, gained a sun tan (and mozzie bites) and probably a few pounds weight gain!!

Day 10 footsteps - 8,936

Summary of our trip - a total of 112,496 footsteps making an average of 11,250 a day!
