Dogtrot House

"The house was revealed as if standing there from pure memory against a now moonless sky. . . and then a passage showed, running through the house, right through the middle of it. . . ."

Don't know what era this is, but your picture takes me back in time to the days when cowboys walked around with horses hooked up at the front.

Fantastic architectural detail and texture in this old place. Very nostalgic feeling.

I've seen this before. The explanation I was given is for air flow -- kind of like a natural version of air conditioning. There is a small white farmhouse on Lyndon B Johnson's plantation in Texas that has this and that's where I was told that. I really like your film shots. You capture the age of these buildings wonderfully.

@debbim Debbi, We've been to Johnson's Ranch and were lucky enough to see an older Lady Bird entering the front door of her home. She turned and waved at "us" tourists. They were still raising cows like they used to before they started breeding leaner ones.

@rmkk @debbim I haven't been to the Johnson Ranch--will have to put that on my bucket list. You were lucky to see Lady Bird Johnson, Marlene! I love the Wildflower Center in Austin, which she founded--beautiful place that does great work with native plants.

@eudora Haven't been there Diane, but really liked her idea of spreading wildflowers throughout the state of Texas.
