Of our five senses, olfactory is the one that has interesting linkages to memory. The other day I caught a whiff of a perfume I used to wear everyday in my mid-twenties. It was my "signature" scent and, when I smelled it, I thought of that time in my life and certain memories.
Olfactory and the memories or feelings it provokes is fascinating to me. There are some scents I just love...the scent of cut grass, the scent of fresh basil...the aroma of cookies baking in the oven...the smell of clean laundry fresh out of the dryer...the scent of my lover's skin after he takes a shower...
I am having trouble finding a perfume I absolutely love, but this one -- Daisy by Marc Jacobs -- has been it for a couple of years now.
I actually worked on a research project about olfactory senses and memory with a professor in college. I still wear the same oil I've worn since high school...Egyptian Goddess. I've tried other things but perfume is often too heavy for me and gives me a headache. I get a lot of comments on the scent I wear and a lot of people remember it after not having seen me for a while. So I think it's with me for life!
@islandk8 cool! I did some studies of olfactory and memory in grad school. It's so interesting. My favorite favorite FAVORITE perfume ever is discontinued. It was called Collection by Escada. Got so many compliments. Even doing google searches on where I could find it and it appears there is/was kind of a cult following for it.
Lovely composition and coloring on this shot.
I've had a few discontinued. Working in an office means no fragrance, though, so my bottle of CK Euphoria just sits there. When I retire, perfume EVERY DAY.
@carolb thanks for the comment, Carol. I like that: perfume EVERY DAY. It's like a slogan. :P
I don't wear fragrance every day where I work now because I work with a frail and sick population in addition to mental illness. I think it could get too distracting and some are very sensitive to odors. But whenever I can...PERFUME EVERY DAY.
Very nice angle and focus in this shot. As to your "scents" question...Some pleasing feelings relayed through my olfactory senses are, the smell of coconut tanning oils at the beach. The air when I was hiking near Pike's Peak. The streets after a Summer rain. Bacon and coffee. I can never decide which smells best! Warm apple cobbler. The ballpark. Her slight persperation ;)
great still life shot! love perfume myself...just got DKNY Be Delicious Donna Karan for my wife on my way back from Nice...it's very nice and subtle not too strong...and once I was there...Le Beau Male by Jean Paul Gaultier for me too hehehe! :)

@demmie thanks!
I also forgot I love the smell of buttered popcorn at the movies.
