Casual...Thursdays...?

My dress is a little bit too short and casual for work but I kinda don't give a fuck. Guess I'll be sitting down behind my desk when I meet with clients today.

So apparently I look like a doctor. Actually, to clarify...I don't necessarily look like I should *be* a doctor but I look like someone who is one. Today I was meeting with a doctor who told me I looked like the anesthesiologist who assisted him with surgery. A few weeks ago, I was in another clinical meeting with a nurse who told me that I looked like I was the female version of a male doctor at the hospital and that I had a similar bedside manner.

Maybe I should've gone into psychiatry. It's funny...when I interned in grad school, a few of my clients used to call me "doc" and said things like, "What's wrong with me, Doc?"

I wasn't studying to become a doctor...

It's funny that some people don't know there is a difference between a psychiatrist, a psychologist, and psychotherapist. But we all work in the realm of mental health.

A doctor, I am not. I can't prescribe haldol or clozapine or Abilify or Zyprexa but I know what they do and how they function.

But...I can't say I hate it when people call me Doctor. ;). Not a bad thing to be considered.
Nice capture, nice pattern in the skirt and legs as always - great 8-). I know the difference as my daughter is about to complete her PhD in clinical psychology. She is about to be Dr but not MD.

Interesting note. Short works though!

@tonydebont Thanks for the comment on the pic. I was originally working towards a PhD in clinical psychology when I started grad school and then decided against it. I have a Master's degree which has prepared me to do psychotherapy and allows me to be licensed in the state of NY to diagnose mental illness, do treatment planning, and psychotherapy among other things.

Although I have studied, greatly respect the field of, and use psychology and its theory in the bulk of my work, I learned that I did not want to become a psychologist. Although I respect medicine and psychiatry, I didn't want to approach my work from a medical model. I found a degree that fits my skills and interests. Who knows, though. I may eventually go on to get my PhD.... Would be cool to be Dr. T ;)

@mralsmith glad to hear that you think short works! ;)

Ditto on @mralsmith's comment about it working for you. By my way of thinking, "too short" doesn't apply to you. Ever. Except hair...never cut your hair.

Did you ever consider osteopathic medicine? It's a very different model from allopaths. It seems to be a less adversarial method of teaching, which would explain why the percentage of DOs that are genuinely nice people is much higher than the percentage of MDs that are genuinely nice people. And then you could distribute phenothiazines and tricyclics and SSRIs with abandon!

@timerskine Oh to be able to dispense meds like candy! A girl can dream. Lol. I kid. I actually did consider becoming a DO. When I embarked on my career change journey, a big barrier was the cost of education. My dad (an MD) encouraged me to go to med school to become a psychiatrist... If I was 22 instead of 32 when I made this change, MAYBE I would've become a doctor. And....when I asked my dad if he would pay for med school, he kinda said, "OK...why don't you just go to grad school for your master's." lol. After putting 4 children through private school education all their lives and paying for private colleges I think he had enough.

Sometimes though I wish I had figured out what I wanted to do earlier in life. Then again...if I had, I would have probably gone to grad school straight out of undergrad and then would have been working in the industry by the age of 24. There is no way my 24-year old self could have handled the kind of work I do.

Interesting that the dotted pattern on the dress, the perforations in the bench and the specks in the floor all compliment each other.

It's funny how life happens. My 17-year old self wanted to be a pharmacist and was working in a pharmacy as a technician. I was even selected as 1 of 72 students out of 400 applicants for the College of Pharmacy...but university learning and I didn't mix too well. If we had, I'd probably be dead of boredom by now (being a pharmacist and being a paramedic are on opposite ends of the action-adventure scale). And I would never have met the Missus and have the wonderful life I have now.

You know what? If you had gone to med school you'd never have met your husband. Nor would that have happened if your 24-year old self found the "right" career path.

@baznman hey thanks for noticing! I thought all the patterns were neat too :)

@timerskine very true. As cliché as it is, things happen the way they're supposed to happen.

Fav for me. It has a nostalgic look for me. Reminds me of when I was a young boy in grade school and that was what the young teachers were wearing. Even then I remember wanting to get close to teacher's legs ;) Guess things haven't changed much.

Well you can always play doctor hahaha. I think a good title for this pic would be "Defenseless Against the Skirt". We still on for 5 Ptz later?

Cool shot, Dr. T!

@islandk8 I like Dr. T lol.

@adamj thanks for the fav. Your comment makes me picture a little school boy clutching on the legs of his kindergarten teacher lol. It's kind of a sweet image.

@fauxtography365 Exactly! OMG.
