The link above is a photo took earlier this year. It was accidental.
This shot, however, was kind of a labor of love. First of all...it was (still is) hotter than all hell out there - so much so, that even a minute out there is too long. Anyway, for this pic, I wanted to include the potted flowers that line the sitting area across Madison Park. To get it, it involved crouching on the ground at various areas of a busy intersection in the scorching sun...in the middle of lunch hour. My shirt was pretty much soaked as I took a few shots. Finally I said to myself, "Screw this shit, I'm done." I'm not sure I'm entirely happy with the end result. The flowers kind of look superimposed.
Alas, I don't have any photo editing software other than Aviary via Flickr and the few photo enhancing options through iPhoto.
In other news, I got a bum shoulder. :( Oh...and it's fucking hot out there. Did I mention that?
It is so freakin' hot out there. I was a hot mess doing my selfie outside in the morning yesterday. I needed a towel to mop off with, but only had a tissue.
I really like this shot. Awesome with the flowers and such a cool looking building. I need to see that next time. The lighting here is really cool, too.
@amandal Thanks, Amanda! The Flatiron is one of my favorite, favorite buildings in all of NYC. Definitely check it out next time you're in this area. :)
T, when you said you took a shot of this five months ago, I just knew it was the one where the idiot driver almost hit you. This ine almost looks like a hibiscus photobomb. I like it!
I was on the way home and two people walking hand in hand down the sidewalk with McD's drink cups. IT'S NINETY SIX FUCKING DEGREES, MCDONALD'S IS OVER A MILE AWAY, AND THERE IS NO HOUSING FOR AT LEAST ANOTHER MILE FROM WHERE THEY WERE. Sorry about that. Stupidity makes me angry.
@carolb thanks, Carol. You have a good memory! As for the McD drinkers... I guess for some people when they gotta have McD's, they just gotta have it. I don't think I've craved fast food that bad to walk in the sweltering heat for it lol.
Really well done. So you had to crouch and sweat to create your labor of love...it just shows that you are willing to suffer for your art, right?
While I like the comment from @carolb about hibiscus photobombs (which would be a good band name), I really, really like the sunbeam flare that runs in a complimentary angle to the roof line. I'm sure you couldn't see it at the time, but it works really well.
But wait. Maybe you COULD see it at the time and you are just that good. Oooooo. Now I'm really impressed!
Sorry about the shoulder. Anything a guy 550 miles away can do? If so, let me know...I'm there for you!
@timerskine Thanks, Tim. When I took the photo, I saw some of the the flare on my iPhone screen but it was so damn bright out there, I wasn't sure if it really came out at all in the photo. Glad it did. I realize now...as I sit in the comfort of my cool apartment...that there was another vantage point where I could have gotten a better shot. It also could have landed me in some shade. But, hey, suffering for the art is a small price to pay. :P
