"You afraid of the dead, girl? It's the living that you have to watch out for."
Went to a funeral this morning. Work-related. There was an open casket. The above is what I heard one woman say to her younger companion as they stepped up to the casket to pay respects to the deceased. The younger woman was hesitant (can't say I blame her - being next to a dead body is a bit surreal) which prompted her friend to say what she said.
Gave me something to think about.
This is the 1 train I took uptown this morning to go to the funeral.
The moving train that is life...do you get on and take it for a ride? Or do you watch and just let it pass you by?
@islandk8 she has a point indeed! Thanks for the FAV. :). Am on the ride of my life now, enjoying it for however long my trip lasts. We only get one, after all.
Cool shot and some really interesting thoughts as always in your story, the older woman was right I'd say. Good reminder with the train analogy too, I sometimes forget to go with it.
Get on every time and go for the ride! Better to have a journey into the unknown and accept that you may get tested and knocked on the way than to sit back, do nothing, feel nothing and be nothing! Love is the same, never be afraid to love or to be loved, yes it comes with risks, but the rewards are always so more liberating!
@streats I'd have to agree with the older woman too. There were so many "gems" said at this funeral. Thought that quote I had heard was different, interesting.

@anzere03 thanks! Dr. T. I like that hehe. :)
@baznman Thanks! I didn't notice the #23 until after I posted this actually. I like it too. Subtle.
I like your story for today...
