I think that's the last for me for those kind of shots this year. Eh. Maybe. Maybe not. Lol. 'Twas fun to do. :)
My family and I (both immediate and my inlaws) don't do gifts anymore for Christmas. Holidays have been less stressful for me since we've stopped doing that. It's been nice not have to worry about what to buy for so-and-so and just focus on spending time with one another, having a good meal, and sharing a lot of joy and laughter.
I don't even get a Christmas present for my husband and vice versa. And you know what? I don't miss it. I remember when I was a kid and I used to ask my parents what they wanted from me for Christmas and they often said, "Nothing." I really couldn't understand that. How can someone want nothing for Christmas??
Nice recreation. Love the light and how your festive nails match the ornaments. Really?! You want nothing?! Good for you! I'm getting notin' for Christmas this year, but I want some stuff. Mostly a lens and stuff for the house.
@amandal thanks, Amanda. Yeah I really don't want any gifts for Christmas. I mean, I have most everything I need. There things I want that I can only get for myself - like career goals, promotion, a healthy body. And anything "material" that want, I like to get for myself...as a reward for hard work or discipline. Most times, when people get me something material, it's never exactly what I want, so I'm better off just getting it for myself lol. That whole saying...you want something done right, do it yourself and all that. It applies to me in terms of gifts.
Though next year when I reach the next level in my career, I'm getting myself a nice big material present that I have been wanting for the past four years...
@tosee ahh a warm tropical island trip to would be nice. Soon enough, maybe husband and I will go. Hope to return to Hawaii for our 10th anniversary where we got married. That'll be in January 2016 :).
Recently we scaled back gift giving, and now we do a Secret Santa. Both of us are from families of 5 kids, so that's a lot of siblings. We have also scaled back the amount of gifts we get the kids. Now we get tickets to something in the city and do dinner. The gift of Quality time and that has been really nice the last few years.
@sunshinephoto5 secret Santa is a great idea. And you definitely can't put a price on Quality Time. Sounds like a nice way to spend the holidays.
I think it makes it less stressful. One year at work, with my coworkers/friends we did a secret Santa and a $ limit. The limit was $10. It was a challenge to be creative on such a small budget and not just get a gift certificate to Starbucks -- which is still a good gift. I remember I got some of the most unique and thoughtful gifts that year.
Elegantly recreated and captured. Love the other one on Flicker too. Like you, we no longer exchange gifts, far too difficult to find something suitable. Send each of the kids some $$$s and let them buy something they need and can use.
My 'gift' to the family is to prepare the food over the two or three days. Lots of left-overs on the 26th.
@tonydebont that's a nice gift, Tony! Food often brings people together and it's made from the heart. I think if my family had young children in it, it'd be hard to resist getting a gift for little ones. They're so cute and happy when they get gifts.
This is a really nice shot, the focus is perfect. Christmas is an odd time of the year - I received a survey the other day asking me how much I was going to go in debt for this Christmas. What the f-ck? The answer is the same as every year - zero.
@soboy5 Wow. But you know what...I've heard people opening up credit or charge cards or taking out loans just to buy gifts for people. Seems really ridiculous to me...but I suppose people do go in debt for Christmas.
