by any other name...

...would it smell as sweet?

I have trouble remembering people's names sometimes. Unless I see it in writing or they're just so remarkable in some way then I can't forget the name. I've tried all those name-remembering tricks but none of them work for me.

I did not take my husband's last name. But if we have a child, he or she will take his last name. My father had no sons so I had decided in college that I would keep my own to carry on my family's name. Plus I like having a last name at the beginning of the alphabet. I remember having this weird thing about dating people with last names at the beginning of the alphabet. My cutoff was the letter F. Don't ask. I'm weird and it's weird criteria. Coincidentally husband's last name is at the beginning of the alphabet too.

Anyway.

Names are important sometimes. My first full name, few people actually know. The name most people call me is my nickname. And even then, I am guarded with who knows my name. Obviously if I have met you in person, you'll know my name. If we've "met" via non traditional means like the Internet and I've shared my name with you, it's because I don't mind inviting you into my life in some way.

I suppose it sounds weird but I want to protect my privacy. I use my husband's last name on email and internet things because it's common. My actual last name isn't and I don't want patients of mine to google me and find out who my family is, things about me, etc. When working with a mental health population, I have to be careful. There are real stalkers out there...

I like addressing people by name. I think it can create a closeness...offer respect.

I...tend to do something annoying with people I am fond of though. I will add "ie" or "y" to their names even if they don't like it lol. Like calling a Scott, Scotty even when he says he won't respond to you if you call him that but he answers you anyway...

But I digress...

I think one of the best sounds is your name rolling off your lover's lips... I remember when husband and I started dating. I loved hearing him call me by my name.

I used to wish I had a different first name because my full legal name is unique. It wasn't until the ninth grade that I started to like it when my Spanish teacher gushed over my name and said it was beautiful.

I hardly ever use my full first legal name because it's 10 friggin letters long. But I'm no longer "ashamed" of it like I was when I was younger.

However, for all intents and purposes... I'm cool with being called T or Ms. T. :)
Nice soft focus... Jessica... ;)

what a beautiful shot! I can totally relate to what you said about privacy and patients. My surname is also uncommon in Malta - i'm the only psychiatrist with my surname...so I like to be careful. I won't ask about your criteria and the beginning of the alphabet - I'll put that down as Ms T's allowed quirkyness ;-)

Now as to the "Guess the 10 friggin letter long female name" competition:
is it ...Tianamarie...or...Tigerlilly? Some hints please hehehe ;-)

@jpgiorgio haha "allowed quirkyness". I like that. Better than saying I'm just straight up weird.

Interesting guesses with my full name but not close :) it's not easy to guess but the T in my name is towards the end part of it.

Nice use of the lighting source to accent a very different and interesting pov with light, dark and shadows. A name I wonder....!

Nice image and great lead-in to the subject of names. My full baptized name won't fit on any government forms. My passport has dropped the third christian name. My conversational name is 'Tony' and I have no surviving nicknames. Tony is a much abbreviated form of my my first name which is far too grandiose for my liking but it is the 'legal' one so it appears on just about any formal document.
Love the topic and the beautifully capture rose.

@tosee thanks, Tom!

@tonydebont I have an uncle with your name. He's a good man.

This rose has elements from the lips photos you often post. Names are a source of a lot of discussion I find, its not all in a name, but there are bits and pieces.
