I run, especially when I don't want to

Because if it doesn't challenge you, it doesn't change you.

And when my legs or lungs feel like they can't do it, I run with my heart. I put my earphones in my ears, turn up the music loud to drown out any negative inner voices that tell me I can't do this.

Am feeling worried and sad lately. But it'll pass. I'll just keep running in the meantime...

(Pic taken after my jog yesterday, which I found particularly hard. But I did it.)
I find it particularly hard as well. Running... as you were...
And good for you, for real. :)

Like the processing...looks like a famous sportswear brand ad.

Nice capture of that determined body language, like the processed effect and muted colours.

good capture great processing :)

@grizzlysghost thanks, Aaron! If someone told me 15 years ago that I'd run regularly in the future, I'd probably laugh. As an ex-smoker, I never wanted to even run a mile, couldn't do it. But now it always feels satisfying when I do...even if it's hard. Maybe especially so because it's hard.

@mara19500 thanks, Mara! I've been thinking of a shot to do about exercise/running. I was going for a bit of a sportswear type of pic with the processing. Will re-visit this shot with a more thought-out plan and execution at some point. And with my better camera instead of the iphone ;)

@tonydebont thanks, Tony! I have ideas about how I want to improve this shot later at some point. But I did like this for a phone shot. Thanks, again!

@ibt thank you for your kind words and visit, Ilona!

Sorry to hear you are worried and sad. I don't run anymore but it did
get me out of a difficult place. You can just let it go one foot and the next footfall soon you are in a space of being, of the moment of just whole hearted doing. Keep going and run, run run!

@tosee i like how you phrased that..."in a space of being...whole-hearted doing". that's a big part of how i feel when i run. i'm doing, being, living in the moment...just one step to the next...not overwhelmed. thanks for your comment. Gotta keep going.

Like the shot. I find exercise provides an excellent vehicle to clarify one's thoughts and feeling, a great release from every day life. Keep it up and all the best.

@peter_1966 thanks, Peter! Exercise is also good for boosting endorphins and dopamine. I often "prescribe" it to my patients who are depressed or anxious. It can really help. :)

"Because if it doesn't challenge you, it doesn't change you." Fantastic quote Ms and the selfie with head phones is cool as well

@longexposure thanks, James! I wish I could take credit for that quote but I heard it somewhere.

I really like this one, but I think the one you posted to flickr was even better. It kind of had a really grim but interesting background that contrasted perfectly with your body shot. Just my opinion anyway :)
April 16th, 2014
@tomtom i think i like the flickr one better too ;)

Fav not just for the slick pic but for the sentiment. Big props T.
