Listening to
this song on the way to work this morning. The title of the pic...always loved that lyric in the song. And while it's an acoustic guitar pictured here not electric, I would absolutely love to hear an acoustic version of this song.
Not a huge Pavement fan but the song and album bring me back to college days. If my college days had a soundtrack, it'd be an interesting mix of alternative/grunge music, hip hop and rap, and throw in some Zappa and Pink Floyd. And randomly, Jackson 5. Lol.
When I think of college and my 20s, I think of Greenwich Village, smoking, sex, CBGBs, Max Fish, LES, NY Press parties at the Puck building....eating, drinking....ahh. I have no regrets. :)
"Because you can never quarantine the past..."
Today, as I listen to this on my way into Manhattan, this song just cannot get loud enough on my earphones...
This pic was taken in December 2013. Husband and I went up to the Catskills for a dinner party with this fellow musician he plays with sometimes. A musician who is actually quite well known in the NYC jazz scene.
The evening was absolutely lovely. Good food. Great music. Great conversation.
The thing about being married to a musician...or any artist, that is... It's not just their job... It's a lifestyle. And if you're married to one, when they suffer or sacrifice for their art, you usually do too in some way.
A random aside...it always amuses me when I read here that people's other halves get annoyed with their picture taking. My husband actually is very supportive of my picture taking habits. Maybe because he is an artist. In fact, on this particular evening, he suggested I take my camera with me as there would be photo ops. He does that a lot.
That night, this scene caught my eye. Acoustic guitar on leather chair. Snare drum on the floor on the side. Upright bass in the back. I loved the light...the way it caressed the guitar...
I felt a little self conscious with the camera as there was a real photog part of the group. One who has had actual gallery shows in NYC and other places. Super talented. That's why I would never ever call myself a photographer. I'm nowhere near as talented or committed to the art as much as they are. It's a hobby not a lifestyle choice for me. I mean, I see what people like them and my husband do for their art... It's why it amuses me how freely people call themselves professional artists or whatnot. Or how people think they should just start a business in the arts because they got access to the internet and some decent talent. I mean, I make a pretty fucking good flourless chocolate cake but it doesn't mean I should go start a Facebook page and open up a restaurant. Maybe I sound like an asshole. Probably I do, not maybe.
Anyway that was a total tangent...Let me just STFU and turn my music up as I finish the ride into NYC :). Happy Thursday. Only one more day until Friday!
If you decided to commit to that full time lifestyle of a photographer there would be no doubt much success. Love your unique style.
@tonydebont glad you appreciate the pic! Thank you.
