Crossing avenues typically takes longer than crossing streets in New York. Because they're wider than streets. Don't know if this is common knowledge outside of NY but the avenues here run north or south, and the streets run east or west. And it's usually every other. Only few streets and avenues have two-way traffic. In other words, 21st street runs east; 22nd street runs west. But 23rd street runs both east and west. Fifth avenue runs downtown...sixth avenue runs uptown. Seventh runs down...can you guess which direction 8th avenue goes?

Streets and avenues crisscross. But then you go to the West Village and all those rules don't apply and somehow you end up on the corner of west 12th street and west 4th street. And you'll be, like, how the fuck did that happen?

Anyway...

It's no longer snowing...but it's icy and I still feel sick :(
You would never find such a rational urban planning anywhere in Europe. Don't even mention Rome, since 2000 yrs... Take some medicine!

Must be unusual to see a street in NYC almost totally deserted. Love the stillness.

@domenicododaro NYC is a baby compared to European cities. While maybe there's less urban planning over there, I do love the fact that when you walk through most any European city, it has a feeling of walking through history (in a good way).

@tonydebont it happens from time to time, but yes it is unusual! Thanks for your comment!
