On the way home today I drove through the pretty little village of Alkham and stopped to visit the church. I'd never been there before and until someone told me recently it was open daily for visitors, I'd always assumed it would be shut.
I spent a happy half hour or so admiring the arches of the building, the centuries old floors and columns, the colourful windows and how so many of the hassocks were brightly embroidered.
I'm not a churchgoer but it was so peaceful and tranquil, you couldn't hear the outside world and it was like being taken back to the 1700s.
