Samphire Hoe by fbailey

Samphire Hoe

Samphire Hoe is the nature reserve at the foot of the White Cliffs of Dover which was created from nearly 5 million tonnes of chalk that was excavated from the formation of the Channel Tunnel. The name is derived from the plant, wild samphire, which grows in the vicinity, and 'hoe', a piece of land that juts out into the sea.

@hermann @dawnee @alijchapman @lynnz @jorlam @jessikapanteleios @redy4et @kwind @pyrrhula @haskar @redandwhite Thank you all for commenting - it really is a lovely spot, never crowded with people. A few years back there was a flock of sheep complete with bells around their necks. This year it's cows, but no bells sadly
