I'd never come across smoke photography until I started the 365 project, and I had to add it to my bucket list for this year. This list gets longer weekly.
The first problem was I couldn't find a shop that sold incense sticks. I tried three places before I finally tracked them down.
The second problem was finding a suitable black background. I settled for the television screen in the end. My first attempts showed just how much the screen needed cleaning!
The smell of vanilla now hits you as soon as you step inside the front door, so I won't be repeating this for a while ...
This is so gorgeously exquisite.. really like the pale backdrop and the composition too.. loving the soft green and all those swirls in the smoke.. the final presentation is 10/10..
maybe try a different scent next time.. one which is less over-powering :-)
@pyrrhula@bigmxx@redy4et@bkbinthecity Thanks very much for such positive feedback! @redandwhite Thanks Catherine, I will gift my incense sticks to you next time I see you!! @royrj Thanks very much Roy, I spent about three evenings playing around with this which has to be the reason the house smelt so strongly:( @gijsje Thank you! @jorlam That's so kind, thank you ... You realise it was your ballerina that started me on this journey!
@fbailey you may well have had your interest piqued by something of mine but.. this fine image is yours and one to be proud of too.. all your own work.. :-)
The incense sticks I bought really bothered my allergies! LOL! I bought one of those cardboard folding boards that you use for presentations. Then I put whatever color scrapbooking paper on it that I want for a background. It gives you a small space, but you can change it up.
Nicely done! 😁 you need to put your subject farther away from the background so you don't need to clean it or PhotoShop it. But I have to compliment you for your ingenuity!
@hermann@special4k@haskar@gamelee@jessikapanteleios@tosee@dawnee@vignouse@jerome@pdulis@megpicatilly@m2016@cindymc Thank you all so much, your comments are very appreciated! @maggiemae Thanks very much - believe me, you won't want vanilla! @homeschoolmom I don't think it did my asthma much good either! Thanks very much for the tip, I'll try it. @skipt07 Thanks very much for feedback and advice - I didn't think of that ... @megpicatilly Thank you, believe me if I can do it, anyone can. All you need is lots and lots of patience. And a clean tv screen! @alijchapman Thanks so much Ali, glad it made you smile. The worst problem was my draught free home. So there I was, one hand trying to create some movement waving merrily in the air, the other hand struggling to balance the camera, focus and press the button all at once ...
